Ozito Replacing The Metal Deck 18v Mower?

I saw the 4 battery version of Ozito brushless metal deck PowerXChange mower on clearance in Alexandria.

And a stack of new 2 battery brushless metal deck mowers next to it.

Although I don't need one now, I'm almost thinking of buying the 4 battery version for future. The new option seems like a downgrade!?

Has anyone got information on the actual power of the motors on these mowers? Has the new one got the same power rating?

  • Have you ask Mr Google or https://ozito.com.au/ Website yet?

    • Ozito website doesn't usually list power ratings. As is the case with mowers.
An indication of power may be the rpm rating, which is higher in 4 battery model, but it's not definitive.

Thanks to everyone for the input,
the "having less weight, and having 2 batteries at charge" are good points and something I didn't think of.

If the power of the motors is same, then having only 2 battery slots is OK.
I just assumed the 4 battery version was more powerful, since in theory you can draw more power the more batteries you have in parallel. And cordless mowers being as weak as they are, any boost in power would be great.

A fairly safe assumption, but they advertise it as extra run time. Of course that might just be marketing as they’d be shooting then selves in the foot to effectively advertise that it is underpowered with only two batteries

I have noticed with my cordless tools (including mower) that the larger spacing battery seems to have a little more power avaaible as it can supply more current

If don’t really see the point of the extra 2 batteries. It doesn’t increase the voltage. If you had 4 batteries it would take about 10seconds to switch out 2 flat ones for 2 charged and go again. Then you can be charging 2 while you mow as well instead of carting around extra weight.

    • Yeah, you still have to put the batteries in there at some stage, newer model is quite a bit lighter but you miss out on some of the 5in1 functions by the look of it.

    • Batteries ain't cheap & it takes time to charge them batteries.
Instead of waiting around twiddling your thumbs, you could be mowing

Umm. It takes 4 batteries, but effectively uses two at a time. It would cost more to have the extra batteries and if you had them you could be charging two while using two. Sure, it’d probably save you the time to trudge back to the shed and get the other batteries, but that is probably offset by pushing extra weight around all the time.

does it only use 2 of the 4 at a time?
why make room for 4 batteries when it takes 2
they would want to keep space & manufacturing costs low
it doesn't make sense to have room for 4 batteries & only use 2,
when the ground or a persons workbench is free to cheap

          • @the Unforgiven: Because they got inspiration from the big AEG 58v, it takes two batteries with only one used at a time…

AEG are the cool kids on the block :)

          • @the Unforgiven: If you want to increase the run time, as ozito says it does, then you increase the amp-hours not the voltage. If you increase voltage it’ll run faster. Therefore it is just running at the same voltage.

it might actually draw from all four batteries at once, which is dumb because while it will run longer, you end up with 4 flat batteries when you could be using two and charging two on the bench at the same time.

            • @Euphemistic: Can't you convert amps to volts?

But you would have twice the run time,
so it works out the same

            • @Euphemistic: If it does draw from 4 at the same time then it means it has more Amps available for the motor = more power.
All Ozito mowers seem to be 18v
If it only draws from 2 at a time then it's not much better than the new one.
Too bad there is not enough information available

  • I had an AEG drill…. that died
I had a 36V Ryobi 20" brushless & I went through 2 in 13 months & Ryobi said they never had any back.
But that had room for 2, but that was a wide sucker, compared to the Ozito
    58V for 1 battery? didn't the Victa have a 72V battery mower?

    • Add some marketing and he 72v victa battery is now 80v. Depends on the marketing department and wether they want to quote the maximum voltage, or the usable voltage.

Ie 18v is often marketed as 20v, 36v as 40v etc.

  • and 240 is 230,
    or there abouts

The newer model is much lighter at 19.75kg vs 27kg but doesn't have the 5 in 1 features. Newer model has a smaller catcher, shorter cutting width and spins slower, 2,900/min vs 3,300/min.

But more importantly, the newer model can't hold 4 batteries simultaneously :)
