b. What is the best cheapest singapore website for lenses to check the prices?
Thanks

  • No, just tell them that for personal use ( your friend may buy DSLR body in Aus ) .
Take it out of the box , put box in separate luggage . No one bother to ask . Good luck !

  • yeah doubt they will ask
    which lens ya getting?
my friend got me a 50mm f1.4 with box through customs
    they didn't care or check

    • im thinking a macro lens. its quite expensive here.

but, i want to check singaporean website first to compare the prices. i mean, dwi b&h citiwide etc have good prices, if the diff is only $10-30 i wont bothering my friend.
do you know any singapore store website with good prices?

  • sim lim is the famous shopping mall for electronic stuff, but you need to bring your singaporean friend. they might charge a bit different with foreigner, it happen to be me before. and asked them clearly, is it included gst or not, some shop really dodgy, it happen to me before.
once, after i bought the item, back to hotel and found the camera already different.
since then, never bought electronic stuff from singapore anymore, prefer bought from hk, go to harvey norman over there better price and price much cheaper in singapore

    • +1

my friends are local. yeah i heard about that simlim. thanks.
i guess HK is cheaper than SG for camera/lenses.
wondering if buying from dwi b&h citiwide ebay etc from here is cheaper than SG

      • If you have friend from Indo, get it there. Some are ridiculously cheaper even compared to those in eBay. Last year I bought a lens, use it for a year, and still managed to sell it for $70 profit. I even got a 5D for $2040. Darn cheap.

        • didnt know about cheap lens from indo. most of my friends bought lens from HK or SG

      • Camera/lens are cheaper in hong kong because shops sell both grey and locally distributed electronics items.

I personally find its still fairly expensive camera gear in Singapore and Malayisa (but still not as expensive as australia)

I brought back a D7000 with battery grip back from o/s.. told the customs guy do I need to pay tax at the airport and seriously his response was

"i wouldn't declare it if I was you, I didn't hear what you just told me"…

so I filled in no for items purchased o/s over 900, he looks at my customs card and lets me through…guess i got lucky but who knows

  • I always bring in/out $15k worth of camera gears when I travel, and custom never asked anything.

    • yes, but the problem (might, might not) is my friends dont have dslr, so they will just bring 1 lens without any camera! but yeah i think buy from websites like citiwide dwi might be cheaper

      • FYI, I know that citiwide are willing to underdeclare for you if you ask them, so you dont pay tax if its over 900

  • customs expects people to bring back camera gear

    don't sweat it

i've brought back $1k+ SLRs and its no big deal

  • rule of thumb, remove the box, my uncle bought it from hk last year and he and put it inside his suitcase with the original box, and he has to pay the fine.

  • you can try checking John 3:16 Photo Supplies, or DD Electronics.

i have purchased from John 3:16 before (not lenses, but a Canon S90), and i have DSLR-toting friends who have purchased from the Australian arm of DDE (DD Photographics)

there is a duty free concession limit of A$900 for adults, so depending on the cost of your lens and what other new items your friend is brining, a new lens may or may not be a problem.

  • If the lens is less than $1000, they do not usually care.

If it is a sigma lens, you can contact www.crkennedy.com.au for a price match
