Faulty Lenovo Yoga Carbon X1 $2000 from Futu_Online eBay Purchased May 2018

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga X1 Carbon from big ebay electronics seller Futu_Online.

Was $2000, date of transaction May 7 2018.

It is an unusual laptop in that it has an OLED screen, however the screen has started flickering big time, it is unusable, here is a video of the issue:

There is no physical damage to the laptop or screen. I was literally looking at the screen when the issue began.

I don't believe I have any way of creating a dispute through ebay or Paypal due to the time elapsed since purchase, it is still listed in my ebay purchase history and I have the invoice, but all I can do is contact Futu_Online which I have done.

For a $2000 laptop I should be entitled to the seller fixing this issue under Australian consumer law right.

UPDATE: Everyone was right who said contact Lenovo. Turns out these come with 3 year warranty, doesn't matter where you bought from, the phone operator even upgraded me to one time on-site support for free to get the screen fixed at my house. I'm only buying Lenovo laptops from here on out!

Thanks everyone.

So poke your serial number in here and let us know what it says.

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/services/pc-services/

Also their warranty page here says 4 years so you should be good to go?

I recently had a faulty motherboard in my Lenovo Laptop purchased in late 2017 (purchased directly from Lenovo though) and I was extremely impressed with the on-site service they provided to fix the machine despite it being out of the 1 year standard warranty period. I'd try contact Lenovo and see what they say

What did Lenovo say when you contacted them?

    • That's a big assumption.

    • To contact, Ozb, then ACCC, then Today Tonight or ACA.

    • contact ozbargain it would seem.

OP What is the warranty for this unit? Contact Lenovo directly for a repair.

  • +1 to check with lenovo.
worst comes to worst, the nuclear option is to contact your bank to initiate a Credit card chargeback, but be aware of any implications this may have on your Paypal/ebay account, ie you may need to contact PP/ebay after all.

    • After 18 months I doubt if any bank will look at a charge back. Maximum is normally 75 - 120 days.

Lenovo has fantastic warranty support for X-series ThinkPads. I’d really be surprised if it wasn’t covered for at least 3 years.

If somehow it only has one year of manufacturer warranty support (which would be strange) and Futu won’t talk to you, I’d start by contacting your state’s fair trading office. They’re usually more helpful in the first instance than the ACCC, which is up to its neck in addressing larger, structural competition issues.
