    those are some exxy fans?

Does the warranty on these require them to be installed by a "licensed" electrician?

    • Yes, you need a licensed electrician to install the fan and the controller.

    • +1

Do you mean unlike each and every single one electrical fixture in Australia?

    • That is standard for all fan warranties

  • What brand/model is the smart controller? Which app does it use?

  • I personally wouldn't spend this sort of money on an AC fan. You should be able to get a DC fan for this sort of money (without the WiFi features). DC fans are so much quieter when operating, more energy efficient and have more speed control options (mine have 6 different speeds).

Any suggestions on a DC Fan Please ?

I just bought two Fanco Eco Breeze DC Ceiling Fan 52" with 5 speed remote. They only use 4 watts at their low setting (35w at highest). The OP fan is listed at 50w and other areas as 35w, so I don't know what it actually consumes…

      • DC fan usually comes with a remote controller, there are no upgrade options available yet on the market.

I got mine from beacon lighting and I'm really happy with them. There may be better options but I'm not aware of what's out there. I've just had a look on their site now, and the cheapest ones are $263.20. They are 142cm, the first ones on this page:

        https://www.beaconlighting.com.au/fans/ceiling-fans/dc-ceili…

It really depends on what rooms you want to put them in. You need to determine what size fan is appropriate and the design that appeals to you. I have the Airfusion Radar fans in the bedrooms, they are only 132cm but they have good airflow for their size, but they are also a bit more expensive $319.20 (I can't remember what I paid for them but I thought it was a little less than that). I also have some of the Airfusion Akmani fans, they are pretty expensive (I think I paid about $550 each for 2 of them), but I really like the look of them and the size (152cm).

If you can't spend too much I would go for the whitehaven ones. I think DC fans are definitely worth the extra money, mainly because they are whisper quiet (can't hear the motor at all) and also the 6 speeds is great. The energy efficiency is also a positive if you are leaving them on practically all day and night in summer time.

        • Is it a smart Fan? Does nit work with a Phone App or Google Home?

          • @Lectory LED Lighting: No, doesn't have that. But I would rather have a quiet fan than be able to control it with my phone. AC motors have a constant hum and it only gets worse as they get older.

Here is a DC version Smart Fan, a bit expensive.

        But nice and quiet. https://www.lectory.com.au/p/Ceiling-Fans-Lights/Smart-AC-Fa…

This would be the better option.

Guy's Thanks for all your help & suggestions - gives me a good starting point.

    • But with a DC fan you need a remote

      • Not sure what you mean. As in you can't use your phone to control it? Or as in some fans require an extra remote kit which costs extra? (this is the case with some fans)

My fans all had remotes included, but there is no smart features (WiFi). But you can get DC fans with smart features, the OP linked one above:

        https://www.lectory.com.au/p/Ceiling-Fans-Lights/Smart-AC-Fa…

This is a bit expensive, but if you want a fan with smart features then I would highly recommend spending the extra money on a DC fan if you can afford it. The benefits of a DC fan vs AC fan outweigh those of a smart fan vs non-smart fan. Each to their own, but I just don't see why using your phone to turn on a fan is so appealing. But I guess the Google home thing is kinda cool using voice commands to turn the fan on (if that's how it works, I don't have one).

        • I meant having to have a remote rather than just having a wall control like a normal fan. I don't want a smart fan and am looking at DC ones, but having to have a seperate remote is not a feature I really want.

  • Looking for a low profile ceiling fan with light. Any recommendations? Either DC or AC.

  • with that coin you're better off buying a split system. Even a portable one.

    • +1

Yes and no. Split systems cost a lot to run, especially portable ones (they are very inefficient) fans cost very little to run. And sometimes just a bit of air circulation makes a huge difference in the house. I also don't like how split systems dry out the air.

      • Sure. Still a $15 3 speed fan from Bunnings does nicely to complement the split system.

  • with that coin you're better off buying a split system. Even a portable one.

    • Ceiling fan running cost alot less especially dc ones

  • Can't see the fan for $256.68
