Why Are Diffusers So Expensive?

I have never used this stuff as hubby dont like strange smells.
So pardon me for the ignorance.

I was at Myer and the Mall yesterday and saw how expensive they are. Normal price is $99 and some are well over $129.
Why are they so expensive?
Not sure if they all come with the oil or refill or how many. Even if they do, guess you'd still have to buy the refill later which is not cheap.

Because you're likely paying retail prices for a brand (or simply rebrand). They're $15 on eBay for chinese-made products.

    I was at Myer

There's your problem right there. As with most things that Myer sells, they can be had for a lot cheaper elsewhere.

    • Not just Myer, I walked around the Mall….

  • Got one at Costco, Moorabbin, the other day for $29. It was this one.

It works quite well and has light and music as well.

    • This is so sad. Diffuser play Despacito

      • Do you have a list of the music? Frankly it is just a wall of sound.

    • What? $29 instead of $129?

    Supply and demand.
There must be some people (not on OzBargain) who pay those prices, so that Myer and other retailers continue to price them accordingly.

Were you looking at Jo Malone or something, or an electronic diffuser? Those sound really expensive.

Glasshouse, Ecoya and Circa Home diffusers are normally about $45 for a standard size

    • The ones I saw were electric…

        That's why they're expensive.

        • But why are electrical diffusers expensive? A nice electrical tower fan from Kambrook cost the same money, and so is some rice-cooker….

  • Bought one from kmart on the weekend and for $20 it's not too bad. Also costs $3.25 for the oil bottles compared w/ the more expensive ones out there

    • Interested to know how long the oil and refill go…

If you mean ultrasonic diffusers the teflon pads in the diffuser cost a lot. If they don't cost a lot they last a week.

There are differences in essential oil quality so best to be discerning & stay away from synthetic essential oils.
