Fake PayPal Page?

hey guys, just a quick heads up, i almost logged in to my paypal account from Safari when it auto completed my link and i noticed a little error, this is the page https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/personal looks legit even hosted on secure page but notice the spelling mistake on the address bar? Pte Ltd should be Pty Ltd, also domain is different, genuine(i think) is http://www.paypal.com.au/au, photo is larger and account login box has one 'Problem with login' link whereas the first one has two links, 'Forgot your email or password', this was probably similar to the older page layout, am i paranoid or is the first link a phishing site?

  • If you use Chrome you will see that the cert for the first site belongs to PayPal Pte Ltd [SG] and clicking on the Login button takes you to the US site. Looks like Australian Paypalers are being serviced from Singapore.

To answer your question, the reason why paypal uses Singapore is because of local taxation laws.
Even though paypal is a US company, all their transactions are done through Singapore if I remembered correctly.

Or in simple, paypal does all transactions in Singapore in order to avoid paying Taxes.

      • Gees, if crap like this is going on, no wonder the US is in the shitter.

as opposed to being serviced from US paypal like before? oh well, no alarm!

    • Simple answer, Paypal is a US company, running out of the US.
But to avoid paying taxes in the US, it does all transactions in Singapore.

Somewhat like how billionaires store their money in the Cayman Islands or Swiss Bank accounts.

  • I've always had a feeling paypal users have been getting 'serviced'…
