Psyllium Husk Capsules (Metamucil)

I’m looking for psyllium husk capsules. I tried meta mucil branded and liked them. Then I tried Now branded and they don’t seem to work. Are there any other options for capsules that are cheap per dosage?

That is cheap, cheaper than Woolworths per gram. But I can’t stomach it, it’s like drinking sand mixed with liquid. I tried it and I could never get used to it, but I can swallow 6-12 capsules at a time. Well not at the same time, one after the other.

      • I accidentally bought one of those "no flavoured" Metamucil because it looked similar to lime. Bought some Bicksford lemon lime buyers cordial ($3.50-4) and just mix it together, was quite nice.

I guess learning to flavor the loose husk would be the cheapest option.

@AustriaBargain: The powdered stuff is gross. I get https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/479953/mac… it doesn't get solid as fast and doesn't taste as bad. I usually mix it in water and drink it straight away before it starts turning solid, there's barely any taste.

            • @yippy: $24 per kilo is on the expensive side. There are non-supermarket sellers who offer the stuff for under $20/kg, like Royal Nut Company ($15.50/kg) for anyone in Melbourne. You could try no-nonsense health food stores in your area.

              • @kahn: I don’t suppose you’d know off hand if any of these stores are likely to have a machine that puts stuff like this into capsules?

              • @kahn: Yeah I've bought it cheaper from supplement stores but it's more convenient to get it when I'm buying my groceries.

                • @yippy: I guess i feel like if I'm planning on taking something daily for years that i should go for the lowest price if i can help it. I feel like I'd take double doses, which doubles the yearly cost. and I'd probably buy a year's worth at once just to save on postage and the convenience of never running out.

You are supposed to add 1-2 tablespoons to your cereal / yogurt. I've never heard of anyone drinking that product (I'm obviously leading a sheltered existence)

        • Isn't powdered metamucil just this same stuff plus sugar and fruit flavours? The capsules I would have thought would be identical, no need for flavours or anything. Maybe I should tear one open and have a look.

          • @AustriaBargain: capsules more ground up I think.

I haven't had capsules just metamucil and it's like powder.

lol. We have a dude at work and his name is Mukul and we call him Meta

            • @brad1-8tsi: I could stir it into yogurt, but then it'd make the yogurt grainy. I suppose i could bake it into a crumble and stir that into the yogurt, to preserve the yogurt texture..

  • Why are you looking for them? To add more fibre into your diet? Try eating say oats for breakfast and more legumes, whole grains and veg and you'll do it naturally.

This makes it easier/quicker to wipe after taking a dump.

It also makes certain other activities easier. This song says it better than I ever could.

  • You could try Indian stores, if you want something cheap & aren't too fussed about them being made in India.

They are called "isabgol tablets" in Hindi.

Here is the variety on Amazon India. (Unfortunately, Amazon India won't ship them to Australia)
