CatchOfTheDay --- Feel Ripped off

hello.. nothing special just want to share. just bought 5-6 items from cotd, arrived in a week but then i feel the quality of the stuffs are rubbish. (they not notebook or food, just some "toys" or "gadgets"
well, maybe cheap, but not VERY cheap so still feel i wasted some money on them.

Yeah sadly, quite a few of us have been stiffed by COTD before on these kinda things…sorry to hear you've also joined the club!

Did you also happen to get a copy of CA Internet Security Suite; coz they must have a bucketload of these? ;)

    • didnt get that CA things.

for the stuffs they are selling, pictures on web are good but the real thing are very dissapointed

      • You didn't miss anything there either…one of the funnier reviews call it "a Frankenstein's monster, cobbled together from a set of mediocre tools"…I lulz'd! :)

COTD have been trying to dump them for ages, they even made them a super-duper special money-back guarantee deal…everyone I know of asked for their money back…more lulz! ;)

  • Yeah I bought some stuff in their latest grocery run. I bought the Harpic toilet cleaning stuff when they were 2 x 450ml for whatever the price was. The second day of the grocery run they had a 1 x 750ml which was cheaper per 100ml than the day before, very crap if you ask me!

I was also disgusted that they packaged the toilet cleaner in with food items. Supermarkets make sure they pack them separately to take home, let alone my stuff being posted together and jumping all over the place!! Obviously done to save on postage, crap with a capital C!

    • and just see today's deal. everything free just pay shipping. i saw something i ALMOST bought few days ago, now is free. crap.

      • shipping per item charged though… so you may not save that much.

        • and from what I saw, they charged at least $5 per item shipping (minimum purchase of 2 items), so I doubt you'd be saving anything at all.

    • +4

To be fair though, this is kind of a funny unnecessary thing they do at the supermarket right?

It's not like toilet cleaner has been anywhere near a toilet when you buy it, but the thought of its purpose makes it disgusting and unclean should it touch our tinned peaches.

There's something people find inherently (irrationally) disgusting about toilet paper, hemorrhoid cream and feminine hygiene products etc. Like somehow something's future use is already impregnated on it (poor choice of words, I know). It carries into adulthood for many, as evidenced by the way blokes behave on tampon commercials.

As long as the chemicals are sealed and the food items are non-perishable (canned/airtight) surely we can forgive them for delivering it efficiently?

Just thinking out loud carlenet, nobody can tell you what to be grossed out by.

      • +6

I think it's more the fact that potentially toxic or harmful chemicals have been packed with foodstuffs that carlenet is alluding to; rather than it being unsanitary per se.

I must admit, I'd be cranky about that too; and I haven't seen a checkout person lazy or stupid enough to put the two categories together in years…not even that really lazy guy at the self-serve checkout…oh, hang on a minute! :p

        • +1

lol. Yeah, I often get into a dust up with that guy.

But still, are we talking fresh produce or tinned stuff that would survive a thermonuclear explosion?

        • But still, are we talking fresh produce or tinned stuff that would survive a thermonuclear explosion?

          Good point! :)

      • +2

MattyD, I think you misunderstood me; Stewballs, you got it!

I don't want Harpic, where the safety cap doesn't even work properly as you can just screw the lid off, anywhere near chocolate or biscuits for a short car trip let alone being packaged within the confines of a box that will be thrown around by Australia Post!

I've not emailed COTD but I intend to. I feel there should be some type of policy regarding this!? Am I being over the top here!?

        • Fair enough carlenet, and I agree. There's a lot of packaging that you just wouldn't trust to repel chemicals and whatnot. I wasn't judging, just curious. I often laugh at some of the illogical things I catch myself doing.

    • -6

They are properly sealed, they do this so the chemicals stay on the inside of the jar. There is nothing wrong with this being near food stuffs. harden up.

      • +1

maybe, but are the outsides of those chemical containing bottles up to food grade container standards and cleanliness, I doubt it.

  • +3

maybe for notebooks, what you get is what you see (unless they lied about the specs). so i think fine to buy laptops from them (as long you check staticice jb hn ds etc)

BUT the rest… just like you go to $2 shop, really..
    COTD = online $2 shop

BUT the rest… just like you go to $2 shop, really..

That's pretty much hit the nail right on the head! :)

  • +2

When will people realise that COTD buy from shops that everyone else buys from?

They do not have any special suppliers that give them special prices.

99% of products sold can or could be found cheaper elsewhere, especially when you include shipping.

Most of the no name products are imported from China and made cheaply.

I often see products with a 200% markup on what I know they paid for it, this just proves that they are not intending to sell products cheap.

  • +2

Aren't COTD and Scoopon from the same stable? From the copious amounts of negative comment on them, I would run far away from them.

  • Read up on the cotd 'mess'

    in the forum

wouldn`t touch them with a bargepole

  • another word for cotd = they sell something other shop can NOT sell (because of crap quality)

    • COTD = Crap of the Day

EDIT: I see someone has already been here.

  • Bought 2 pillows and sheet set from COTD a few months ago. Total garbage. Pillows are hell to sleep on/ Sheets were cheap, crappy and ugly.

    • +1

pick your stuff better, ive bought a fair bit of manchester off cotd in the last few months and ive not had anything to complain about, even though i had some doubts initially

  • +3

I liked COTD when they first started. Now they are just an online version of one of those discount variety or $2 stores (Without the overwhelming mothball smell).

    • I agree - first saw them endorsed on A CURRENT AFFAIR and first few times was happy with their service - last two purchases were terrible, bought 2 faulty MP3 players (for gifts), though they did refund my money. My latest (and LAST order with them) has been a complete disaster. 25 days after ordering 2 items, they are stilllisted on their site as "PROCESSING", so I asked for the order to be cancelled and my money refunded, received a reply saying the order could not be cancelled once it enetered the 'processing' stage. However, as soon as you place an order it enters the proessing stage. I insisted as the order had not been dispatched that it be called, though my previous 5 emails have gone unanswered. I have now filed a transaction dispute with my credit card provider asking for my funds to be returned to my account. Generally crappy, inferior cheap products, and extremely bad customer service - BUYER BEWARE!

Yep. CrapOfTheDay's reputation is well-deserved, and is rapidly becoming the kind of anchor which has sunk ventures run by more legitimate operators than the COTD crew.

They dropped to new lows when they refused to honour my "LITTLESTAR" $10 discount voucher, offering no other explanation other than "our system doesn't allow us to alter…". Funny - they've had no problem altering countless paid orders in the past when stock didn't materialize…

  • Can't believe you guys still got suck in @COTD!

  • booo, i just opened a grocery run box, and checked things over against the invoice jogi from cotd supplied me, i got given a bottle of medislim weight loss tablets instead of a biggest loser weight loss shaker, so disappointed i cant embarrass my co worker with this tomorrow:(

    • Haha you were warned and you still went ahead…… hopefully you wont next time ?

      • Ahh I don't really buy anything significant from them, and this is my first cotd, so be gentle lol

  • bought some screens of COTD, the philips led ones work a treat, $89 bucks about 12 months ago for 19 inches of justice :D

  • one word "SCUMMERS"

I bought 2x ice tea packs from catch of the day and they're great, but it's the only thing I've ordered from them (fast shipping though).

    • Are you sure that wasn't 1-day that you bought the iced tea from?

      • I stand corrected

Also got lollipops from 1-day which where awesome

  • Cotd is mostly crap, but I bought my iPad from them and I'm happy with it. Thou it wasn't really that cheap, only a little less than retail, but better than nothing

  • overpriced junk

  • Hi OzBargainers,
By way of introduction, I'm Jen and work at CatchOfTheDay.com.au I'm a recent addition to our team and it's certainly been an interesting read through the forum posts involving our group of companies.

A number of recent issues raised in this thread relate to our lack of timely and meaningful updates in relation to order and dispatch status. For this, I sincerely apologise on our behalf to each of you who has been frustrated by our response (or lack of) to date.

By way of background, we recently relocated to a new warehouse and upgraded our warehouse management system to cater for the new warehouse and the introduction of GroceryRun.com.au. Unfortunately, during the transition, a number of CatchOfTheDay.com.au orders from early September and the first two weeks of GroceryRun.com.au experienced significant dispatch issues and delays.

We are making ongoing efforts to increase our customer satisfaction and reduce our dispatch times with better training and technology. If you have any additional suggestions as to how we can improve, I’d certainly be delighted to receive your email directly.

Because OzBargain is not an official support channel for us, I strongly encourage you to direct any questions or issues to our Customer Service team. For CatchOfTheDay.com.au, this is accessible via the Help Centre on our website.

If you, as a OzBargain member, do not receive a response within two business days, please email me at [email protected] and I’ll do my best to investigate and resolve. If you do need to email me, please ensure that you include your Order Number and any Customer Support Ticket Reference.

    Have a great day!

hi, i have read again from the top and this thread has nothing to do with COTD order and dispatch status issue, but with …. (i let you find out yourself - as far i can see, its not not hidden! well, maybe kind of mystery of the day!)

      cheers.

      • Hi erwinsie,

I understand what you are saying, I merely wanted to introduce myself and provide a background as to what's happening here at Catch at the moment.

Mostly I wanted to welcome anyone to email me if they had any queries or questions regarding any orders placed so that I may follow them up on their behalf at [email protected] so that I could help them out.

        Regards,
        Jen
