my daughter got this deal. happy as a pig in poo as she was about to buy a pixel 3 for $750. (no, she doesn't care about the various Pixel 4 issues)

They gave the iPhone 7 plus a score of 88 so anything higher than that is an improvement, bearing in mind that they do consider video capabilities.
Pixel or Sony would be good bets.
