Anytime Fitness - Selling The Keyfob

Hi Guys,

I purchased a anytime fitness membership from an existing member in Feb'19.

In August'19 - I cancelled the membership by calling the home gym. They charged me a pro-rata fee for the rest of the month and that was it. They didn't want the Keyfob so I kept it.

Yesterday I noticed someone selling their Keyfob on anytime fitness (for anyone who might have lost their keyfob or wants to join anytime fitness and is being charged for one) for 40$.

I figured I might sell mine too (it's of no use to me anymore - and hey … 40 bucks) - but then wondered if my Keyfob is linked with my membership? If I sell it off - and someone else starts using it - will my auto-debits start again? Seems unlikely because the gym will probably reprogram it. But I don't want to sell anything for 40 bucks to be stuck with a 75$ debit at the end of the month and wasting another 75$ worth of time arguing with the gym to reverse it.

So just to be on the safe side - has anyone sold off their anytime fitness key fob? And if so, were there any problems afterwards?

Auto debits cant be "restarted". Once it is void, it is gone.

The key is yours to keep (or give away) I guess.

  • I am guessing it's because they charge 70 dollars for a new FOB.

I was kinda pissed after having to pay that.

  • Surely they deactivate the key fob once membership is cancelled

    • You can always reactivate it and register to another user.

  • There’s some discussions about it on this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/485645

  • I would assume they delink the keyfob when account gets canceled.
