Can I Spend Gift Cards and Still Receive Bonus Flybuys Points?

Hey guys,

So I'm looking at the standard flybuys offer that I'm sure everyone gets regularly:

1,000 Bonus Points When you spend $50 or more at Coles.

Terms and conditions

  • Offer valid in store and for Coles Online orders delivered or collected between Wed 27 November and Fri 29 November 2019.
  • Offer only redeemable once.
  • Offer valid only at Coles Supermarkets and Coles Online (excludes Coles Express), subject to store availability. To check whether we deliver to your area visit shop.coles.com.au. To qualify for this offer you must activate this offer and present your flybuys card at the time of purchase. Transactions must take place between Wed 27 November and Fri 29 November. BONUS POINTS will be applied on one transaction over the above specified spend, after all discounts and exclusions and excluding all gift cards, iTunes cards and smoking/tobacco product purchases. You have been specifically selected for this offer and it is not transferable. BONUS POINTS can only be collected once per flybuys account. This offer has been sent to you by flybuys. flybuys’ privacy policy applies. Standard flybuys terms and conditions apply and are available at flybuys.com.au. 10029760

I note that gift cards are excluded, but I understand this to be only referring to the purchase of gift cards. Can I spend a $50 Coles gift card on my regular groceries and qualify for this bonus?

Thanks!

Yes, using gift cards does count. However, spending flybuy dollars does not count.

I've used flybuy dollars, as well as gift cards (sometimes in the same shop, on numerous occasions and still got the 2,000 / 10,000 point offer

      • It was probably a coles/flybuys stuff up for me then. I met the minimum spend if it included the flybuys dollars but didn't without and I didn't get the bonus.

I think it depends on whether you are redeeming your points at the checkout to take $x off your shop. I have always redeemed my points for flybuys dollars before going to the shops and paid using them during payment. I've always met the minimum spend when paying this way.

The '$10 off shop' auto discounts your basket, so if you'd spent $50 and did that your total would be under. If you use flybuys $ instead it's fine.

Also the points don't usually come until after the last day of the offer if you've checked too soon. Easiest way to check if you met the minimum spend is did you get 50 flybuys points for the transaction?

            @Soluble:

The '$10 off shop' auto discounts your basket

Only if you have a Coles Financial product. If not, then you have to swipe your Flybuys card like an EFTPOS card

@kerfuffle: Yeah that's why I said use flybuys $ and you're fine, they just function differently at the register level.

The same issue if you select money off shop when they have the spend so much for 4 weeks. If you select the money off shop option instead of flybuys points that won't count towards your next flybuys spend.
