Chiangmai Thai scoopon/living social

Just a warning to ozbargainers who bought Chang Mai Thai in lygon st, I read that on urban spoon that they had dual menus for vouchers, I didn't believe so but its true. Every voucher customer are asked to provide it upfront, a sign is stuck up & we could see the 2 different menus for no bookings & "bookings/vouchers"

So if u did buy one, consider asking for refund, if u over spend even a little bit over you'll save money by ordering off the cheaper menu & not using the voucher.

  • That's dodgy. I bought 1 of these but have been having trouble getting reservations albeit it's usually the day before or so. Will be contacting Livingsocial. Thanks for the heads up cloudy.

    • trouble getting reservation…

that place can not be anymore more emtpy, but true to say lygon is very competitive with choice so no place there is full. But last night there was 5 vouchers (including myself) and 1 walk in. for the whole night. We were first couple to arrive there, and left at 8.

I doubt they are ever full, so if you have trouble getting a reservation i'm surprised.

I would say the service is friendly, and happy with that, although on urbanspoon some have described it as fake, which i can see why.

Neil, watch out for the menu you receive with a cover page, and a walk in that receives a menu with no cover page and just starts with menu options.

      • I wonder if this is a typical ploy for Lygon street restaurants where they display the menu outside but the one inside has different prices. Sort of make sense in their eyes. If you have already made a booking then the restaurant has already got you as a customer. If you are walking down Lygon and looking for a restaurant, it's in their best interest to entice you with better prices. Does Chiang Mai have a spruiker outside?

I guess the question is, is it an ethical question or a legal question? Do you want to argue with the people handling the food you are about to eat? I'll see if I can get a Livingsocial rep on here (if they exist).

        • The display menu outside has the items and a price range. IE, it says seafood curry. $15-$20.
so you dont really know the price till you sit down.

          No Spruiker outside.

It is no doubt a ethical question, the 2 menus they have are both well done, both lamented so, clearly thought has been put into how they can give the impression of a deal, when it clearly isn't much different from full price.

  • I can not find any "Chang Mai" in UrbanSpoon on my iPhone.

    Please link to these reports/reviews.

  • That is poor form. I reckon that is blatant discrimination. Very uncool.

    Hi cloudy,

    Thank you for this information.
All Scoopons sold through www.Scoopon.com.au have now expired - so this will not affect any of our Members.

However, we had not received any feedback to our support crew regarding this matter when the Deal Provider was still honour Scoopons. We kindly suggest that you either speak to management of the restaurant, or contact the voucher outlet for clarification.

    Kind Regards,
    Team Scoopon.

i hope those of you who use it would complain and ask for a refund or compensation. As it's just not on!
The groupbuy compnay should regular the business better and not allow their members to be ripped off!

If the resturant didn't want to provide a discount, then they shouldn't use group buy deals.
