Kogan Mobile Cannot Activate New Sim

Hi ozbargainers,

I've recently purchased a Sim card from Kogan, and when I went to activate at koganmobile.com.au/activate, it said:

"The starter pack phone number or last 4 digits of your SIM number you entered above don't match the details on your SIM Starter Pack. Please check the numbers and try again"

This was weird (as it worked for me last time, about a year ago), so I called Kogan and they weren't much help. Basically said that they can send another sim card out (which would take 3-5 business days) or I can buy one for $2 from 711 or United.

I didn't want to wait around so I went out of my way to find a United. Bought one and got exactly the same error message.

What is going wrong?!?!

dunno, u should ask them again.

    • It's so frustrating. They keep telling me that it must be a faulty batch and that they will send me a new one in 3-5 business days, which doesn't help me

  • Are you putting the last four digits of the sim number correctly?

    • Of course. For both sim cards

  • I have the same issue :(

  • Yeah same issue here with me. I ordered 2 SIM's and they both have this problem.

  • Same issue. On hold to them now. I hope they can sort it straight away. I’ll have no credit by tomorrow

  • Same issue. So annoying. I have been waiting just about 2 weeks to activate my sim and they claim it is "corrupted". I have got 5 brand new sim cards on me which are "corrupted" according to them.

    • I got loads of them too. Thanks for this info.

  • I had the same problem - ordered a new sim, couldn't activate it. Called kogan customer service and was advised to buy another $2 sim. Tried to activate new sim - still faulty. Called kogan mobile again and was told the problem is these sim cards are so old (like 2 years old) they have been deactivated. Gave me the choice of getting a new sim sent out (no guarantee this one also wouldn't be old and deactivated) or I could go into 7 11s and call them to check each sim before purchasing.

    • Thanks for info and good advice.

As I have been a heavy user of Kogan Mobile ( especially the FREE XL/$0.99 XL/etc etc )and fly through them, as well as being a general sim hopper ( about time I stopped using the term sim sl*t ), I have started logging/filing/dating and generally keeping a record of the various sim packs I buy.

Had this same problem too for the first time ever few months ago with one of my older sims, moved half way up my order of about 20 Kogan Sims and Presto, it worked. I straight away threw out all the older sims up to the good one and next time we see what happens lol.

  • Im having this problem too, i had this problem when activating a Sim for a Family friend, Honestly (profanity) Kogan starting to think they aren't even worth the hassle literally went to 5 different 7/11's in my area (Sydney) and none of them had Kogan Sim's.

Kogan mobile enforced 365 days expiry rule, which is printed on the new SIM card pack. 75% of my old ones are 'corrupted' and I believe the rest are within 365 days.

  • Did you ever resolve this? Having the same issue but I'm trying to use a sim card from a few months ago.
