Winegrowers Direct - Dodgy deal - Immediate refund from Jump on it. Still selling on Living Social

JOI had a $150 for $69 of wine, beer or spirits from Winegrowers Direct. You had to order via the call centre. It took twenty minutes to get through the wait for the call centre.

I told the guy I wanted two bottles of Moet at $75 each. He said that the deal required that I buy a full case of wine to redeem the voucher. I was surprised and said I would have to look into what I wanted to buy.

I couldn't find that in the T&C for the deal so did a live chat with JOI. They refunded my money straight away.

This deal is now selling on Living Social. It's going to be hard to redeem as the call centre wait will only get longer once the LS vouchers are released. You have less than a month to redeem them so if they run out of everything decent you are up a creek. The deal isn't valid on specials. A lot of the items are listed in the regular section and the special section, with the specials section at significantly lower prices.

Well done JOI. People considering buying this deal may wish to consider the stock availability, etc. (Most of the items I have never heard of.)

  • thanks for the heads up - was going to buy - but will pass now :)

  • Good work, Jump On It. That's how customer service should be.

Wine Growers Direct is associated with Aussie Farm Direct or similar. They had a hard sell salesman come by and I almost signed up, but I was required to give him, not the company, my banking details. I said no way. Blow that. He's a contractor or something. Someone going door to door. I urge anyone looking at this deal to take a really good look at the wines they have. I have only heard of two and those were the french champers. I am a prolific drinker and know a lot about wines. Glad I could get out.

Wine Growers Direct arent a subscription service !! They wouldn't have asked for your banking details ! They are a buy-as-you-need service, and you can buy what you like, and definitely arent contracted in nor required any minimum spend !! You need to get your facts straight !

  • Well I did buy the case which advertised itself as "…12 bottles of exceptional wine from an assortment of top South Eastern Australian and South Australian brands…" And a "Premium-Quality Mystery Box of …. 12 Bottles of SA Wine….. ” These quotes are taken directly from the advertisements.
The voucher itself and the receipt also restate that the box would contain "12 bottles of SA wine".

However when delivered the wine is certainly not premium and definitely not wine from SA, in fact they are all from New South Wales! Three e-mails and several phone calls later I still have no response. If this is what they call customer service and delivering what they advertise then I suggest they get somebody new on-board.

    Beware ordering from them.

  • Regrettably I bought wine from Wine Growers Direct after a call from one of their salesmen. It turned out to be poor quality and I have been trying for months to recover my money. Despite three promises I have received nothing. I am now taking it to Fair Trade.

  • I used to buy wine from their website and actually found most of it to be very good value, definitely not top quality but for the price was very reasonable, good quaffers.

they used to only charge $8 for freight but now they charge like $28 to Tassie so I dont buy from them anymore
