Power Hungry Edimax Powerline Adaptors

Energy meter turned off everything and have 37W leak somewhere.. Finally found my toothbrush on charge dropped 7 Watts still reading 28W. Then I saw powerline on dropped 2W then the other made 0W so 27W make powerline adapter or $60 a year to send data from 1 end of the house to the other.

Just a heads up most claim 4W running costs but when the cheap ones link I think the power goes 6 fold Running 24X7 adds up very fast

Should I upgrade and has anyone tested theirs???
Had these for 5+ years still work OK but that's $300 in power over that time..

  • OK the maths doesn't look right but the meter fluctuates I'm taking off the read after each removal.

  • Edit - my maths was incorrect.

    • say .025 x 24H = .6 KW per day I'm doing little more

  • +1

27W is a ton of heat. I'm not sure what it's sending into the wiring but I don't think that's right.

    • Thanks ones in behind a heavy office desk never thought to check if it was hot.

Just looked wall temp is 25 C one is 37 C and the other near 40 C and the Asus RT-AC88U is around 45 C according to my laser thermometer.

  • i have a ethernet over powerline set(tp link) and they get hot as.
