Thinking of getting one for a family vacation , is it worth it ?
Better off buying an older gen one that works off gumtree. If you're anything like me you will buy it for the holiday and never use it again.
Or even using your phone camera more.
New models have the wide camera and could suffice your usage.
480 is a good price and microphone is better than previous models.
Since they made the camera waterproof without the housing case, mics were compromised, but gp8 has a decent one now.
I have the 7 and the 8 and im not a fan of the 8 at all. Not having the removable lens is a money grab by gopro.
In terms of accessories, can I just buy cheap ones from aliexpress? Or should I buy at least the selfie stick from go pro?
Most cheap accessories are fine. I've heard of cheap mounts breaking in extreme conditions (someone mounted it under his car when off roading and it snapped). You can tether it with some cord as a backup if you're worried.

This stopped being a deal around 1pm this afternoon as my daughter found out when she tried to pricebeat with Officeworks, because that was when DigiDIRECT added it to their excluded items list.
I quote from digiDIRECT customer service agent Breanna - "The Gopro hero 8 was reverted due to high demand and low stock" and
"This item was on sale and is now included in our exclusions list"So when is a 15% Sitewide Sale not a Sitewide sale?? answer when you start actually selling stock.
