OzBargain Approved Mobile Plan to Support Apple Watch Cellular

I'm after an ozbargain Approved Mobile Plan to Support Apple Watch Cellular. I bought the Apple Watch cellular discounted (of course) from a post on Ozbargain (of course). My research seems to show that only post paid plans on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone are supported… and these aren't anywhere here as appealing as the Boost prepaid plans we are currently on.

Any suggestions from anyone re a cheapish option top support the cellular feature?

Thanks!

  • This is the only thing keeping me on post paid :(

    • on or from postpaid?

      • Keeping me on Telstra postpaid. I'd love to switch to Boost but don't want to lose cellular on my watch

        • ah yeah I see. We love paying the phone bills annually on prepaid. I hate post paid but we want cellular one number. what plan are you on? would ideally like under $25 w/ at least 5gb and calls/texts.

          • @Bellpop: An ancient $50pm with $10 off due to a signup bonus. We don't get good reception at our place so we use minimal data but need Telstra :(

The best thing about Telstra is that my wife's data and the data share SIM with my iPad all pool together so there's plenty if we ever need it.

Too bad there's no small plans for light usage.

            • @coxjon: hmmmm I wonder if all plans can data pool? I could go on a JB hifi plan and data pool with my wife on cheap Telstra plan to use One number with.. hmmmmm

              • @Bellpop: I don't think any of the new plans support data pooling without an ABN?

                • @jace88: Oh man. That’s sucks. Thanks for the info though

                  • @Bellpop: Unfortunately I think if you really want the companion eSim support for your Watch, you're stuck with one of the major post paid plans. Data sharing used to be available on Telstra but that got phased out back when they introduced their new simplified range of consumer plans (and forego a lot of the special features/options previously available).

I'm holding out for a new Telstra (or other network) plan which supports data pooling/sharing as I hate to have to manage it on a per sim card basis.

  • Any updates on this?
After the same thing. I was very disappointed when I found out my $12 a month for 13 GB Kogan plan didn’t support Apple Watch

    • Haha me too. Same with boost 12 month packages.

      • Same with any Boost plan. No support for Apple Watch.

        • Guess the question is if there are now any resellers at all that support the Apple Watch or if you have to pay premium mobile plan fees to have the privilege

  • Any updates on this in almost mid-2020? I just want a cheap plan for my watch in case my phone is down!

    • Was thinking about this the other day, same boat as you

  • Checking in to see if there's anything new on this one…

    • I’ve given up. Might get one of the JB deals with Telstra. $59/ month but a $500 voucher and loads of data

  • Just in case this is helpful for anyone/ if anyone is helpings seniors/others with a need for a cellular apple watch - Telstra offers a $15 credit for Health Care (concession) card holders on their $45 Extra Small monthly plan (no contract): https://www.telstra.com.au/plans-devices/concession-offers

"Have a valid Health Care Card?
You may be eligible for our $30/month Value Mobile Offer, which is our $45 Extra Small Mobile Plan with a monthly recurring $15 credit.
Not available on our Upfront Mobile plans."

Quite easy to apply online or you can call Telstra (we called as we were needed to request a new sim and port our number).

This brings down the monthly fee to $30 then plus $5 for the Telstra One subscription service for the Apple Watch. (Total $35)

  • I saw that Amaysim now offers e-sim.
And knowing that with the apple ecosystem, if you get a call on one device you get a call on the other devices as well,
has anyone tried a combination like below?

    Main phone : Boost Mobile
    Smartwatch : Amaysim e-sim

    • Any joy?

    • Any update?

      • Someone mentioned the the Woolworth Esim can work with the Samsung Smartwatch. Unsure able Apple

  • Any update 😢

  • Truphone - $99 for the year, I have two for my children’s Apple Watches. They have their own number and can call and text
