(Speeding Fine) No Notice Sent

I got caught by a speed camera a few month back when i bought my new car. The problem was it was on the day i picked up/traded in my car so the dealer got sent the fine.

They eventually got in contact with me and told me to do a self nomination signed off by a JP. I agreed and after dropped it off at the dealership expecting to get a new notice sent to me later. Its been 2 month and nothing has arrived.

I have no excuses for speeding and willing to pay the fine but Im feeling entitled and lazy so i dont want to call around and expect dealer/gov do their job and get it sorted and sent to me.

But at the end of day fines dont just vanish what shall i do?

Don’t know what state you’re in but ring TMR or SPER and see if you actually still have a current licence or it’s been suspended for non-payment of fines.

    • This. If you have submitted the stat dec, the dealer has submitted it to the authorities and the fine has been applied to your licence but the notice went missing or was directed wrongly somehow you might be driving while suspended without your knowledge.

If you are worried they’ll look into it and actually issue a fine that has been overlooked you could enquire along the lines of recently having mail stolen, or you’ve been on holidays and there was some trouble collecting your mail, and you want to check there are no outstanding fines.

  • was it in Vic?

Welcome to Australia's foremost bargain site, where we advise on traffic infringements.

    • Traffic fines are the most expensive thing you'll ever pay for, why shouldn't they be discussed on a forum that is supposed to be about how to save money?

typically because the legal knowledge of many of the inhabitants of these forums is a best poor and at worst outright wrong. Of course there are a few that have experience and knowledge but may apply it in a biased way. Combine that with the inevitable trolls and you are in a situation where the advice offered is pretty ordinary.
