Need to replace an old Samsung mono laser and need 10 envelope tray mono laser duplex printer. I've had 2-3 Brother inkjet printers that died from power surges over 10 years ago other than that no experience with either brand.

Brother mono printers have drum/toner counters that are very easy to reset.
Brother will have a separate toner cartridge compared to the HP which is normally all in one drum/toner which is more expensive.

I've got 2x of the mono Brother wifi lasers - first one was about 4 years ago. $120 then, as well as for the same model (3 months ago )for home.
Absolutely zero issues with them; barely have to change the toner and no drum lines/marks like you can get over time. No ethernet but not an issue with the wifi inbuilt. Exclusively gets used with Google Cloud Print.
The Brother will be about $150 more but the offset with generic toner. HP is that new they haven't made them yet looking on ebay + i'm reading problems with the chipset you have to change out from the old original empty HP toner to the generic and put up with the empty toner nag until it does really run out.
Hp specs look more hyped than brother but then reading again Hp quality is lacking.
I’ve never experienced good things with HP printers, from their consumer offerings to their enterprise models. They’ve all variously suffered lag, fuzzy printing and slow wake up times. Brother seems alright but not the easiest to use.

Fuji Xerox P115w = Brother HL-1210W. Couple of superficial differences but they're the exact same hardware inside.
Used to have a Samsung laser printer (I think ML-1866)
Now I have a Brother HL-1110 which I got brand-new just for $30 at a clearance sale :D
Both printers seems same to me, but in Samsung toner+drum is a one unit but in Brother one I can just replace toner
I’ve got a Brother1210W printer that has been going strong for nearly 3 years. Got it for $50, and only bought new toner once. It’s survived my BIL using it pretty much daily while he was doing his Masters
