Desktop with Windows 10 Pro Turns off Randomly for No Reason

Why is this happening. I have been told it may be my graphics card. What are my options here to diagnose or fix this issue. I have to admit the Windows 10 version was downloaded from a still open server from the time Windows allowed Windows 10 downloads for free. I'm wondering if this could be the problem and I have to get a new download of Windows 10 from a store.

  • Remove one part at a time and diagnosis the issue. Usually video card , ram or shitty driver.

Update GPU drivers and monitor system cooling temps as that's another potential reason.

    Check your Event Viewer

  • In system /advanced turn off restart on error. Then you’ll see the blue screen to lookup what is causing it.

  • BSOD or just switching straight off?

I've had a GFX card causing the PC to switch straight off. ( 5 minutes or 5 days, just random

Power supply causing the PC to switch straight off. (5 minutes or 5 days just random)

And the latest windows 10 update causing my old MOBO(not updated FW) BSODing(random seemed to be a couple of times a day). Updated FW and all good.

Took me a while to narrow them all down

  • Roll back windows updates…

  • Does it happen more often under load?

I would suggest turning it off and on again; you're already halfway there

  • You need to post your graphics card model and describe the issue. Personally I experienced this issue:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/c3nvd3/help_rx_570_sap…

It was due to an excessively low voltage of the graphics card at its lowest power level. It was strange because the screen would flick off under light loads (unlike most issues where the graphics card flickers/misbehaves under heavy loads). You could fix the problem adjusting the AMD Wattman settings but then you ran into a different bug where the Wattman settings would periodically reset to default. I haven't noticed the issue recently so I imagine AMD fixed their drivers.

There are so many graphics card issues across both PC and Mac and I expect a lot of people just tolerate them - so you need to be very specific. Which graphics card, what type of flicker, how long is the flicker/power dip and what conditions does it occur under? Even then you probably won't find your answer on OzBargain and your best bet is to interrogate Reddit or the manufacturer's forum.

  • Power supply might be not providing enough power
Ram might not be seated properly

It's most likely not a Windows problem unless you are using the same hardware and it wasn't a problem before.

  • OP we need more details.
It could be a lot of things.
Hows it switching off? Is it just like a power cut or windows is shutting down? What are you doing when it happens?
Run a program called core temp what is it?
Update drivers. graphics, windows and bios.
