Amazon.com Vs Amazon.com.au

Would love some advice on where to go next.

Purchased an Amazon kids tablet in Dec 2017 from Amazon.com which came with a 2 year warranty.

Unfortunately it has stopped charging but it is still within the warranty period. So I called Amazon.com and they have advised that since Amazon Australia has opened, they no longer ship Amazon products from Amazon.com so are unable to issue a replacement.

They have advised that the tablet is still within warranty and should be covered but the system doesn't allow them to enter an address outside the US. So they have issued a credit for the tablet ($80USD).

Problem is that the credit is for the amazon.com website to be used on items sold and distributed by Amazon.com Yet any item sold and distributed by Amazon.com doesn't ship to Australia because they have an Australian website now. The customer service rep at Amazon.com advised me to contact amazon.com.au to have the credit transferred.

So then I spoke to Amazon.com.au who don't want to touch the issue because it is an Amazon.com problem. They have referred the issue back to amazon.com

I'd love to get the issue resolved before Christmas but am a bit stuck with what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can still buy things from amazon.com delivered to Australia. But it is a lot more annoying to find what you can and can’t get delivered. Usually you can only find out at the last few stages of checking out. Also now you will get charged gst as well so will lose out a little bit more when buying from amazon.com, this bit really sucks.

Thanks but unfortunately Amazon products (made by Amazon) don't get sent to Australia and the credit is only for Amazon products.

      • You might want to double check. There was a period where after the .au site opened they wouldn't as they had no way to charge GST. Since then it's changed again and you can buy things on the .com site and have them shipped to Aust. The catch is it must be sold by and shipped from Amazon. You can't buy things that are sold by OR shipped from a third party. That said I've never tried to buy an actual Amazon branded product so perhaps they do have some odd restriction on them in which case if you don't want to pay for a freight forwarded you're probably out of luck.

        • Thanks. There is some odd restriction on Amazon branded products. If it can be purchased on Amazon.com.au then it can be shipped from Amazon.com also (like the kindle etc). But if it's only available on Amazon.com then it can't be shipped to Aus.

          • @Laurenlauren: They haven't released their tablets to be sold overseas, so you cannot buy them.. if you did previously (as it seems you did) then it was most likely a glitch as I have looked to get one of their cheap tablets many times for my kiddies and they've always been unavailable.

Are you 100% sure your credit is only for Amazon branded stuff? Or is it for items that are 'fulfilled by amazon' (this is something different)- the items fulfilled by amazon are often available to be sent to Oz.

            Thanks

Use a mail forward address (even Australia Post has one)!

It will cost you for the forwarding, but Amazon shipping is free within the US ;)

    • Thanks, I looked into it but mail forwarding cost about $70…

  • Sign up for MyUS - 30 Day trial then use that to buy something off Amazon.com instead and have it forwarded to your address in AUS

    • Thanks but the free trial only covers the myus membership fee, not the shipping fee. It's still around $70 to ship to Aus.

  • have you tried youtubing a battery replacement for the tablet? You can probably find a battery on aliexpress or ebay and do it yourself. great learning opportunity.

    • Good idea but I think it's the pins on the charging port. I'll have a look into it. It will definitely be a learning experience!
