Effectiveness of Cigarette Smoke Detector?

Want to install cigarette smoke detectors in our rooms to ensure people are not smoking inside. Regular smoke detectors are generally not sensitive enough (have tested this with cigarettes).

Not many products in Australia. Found this one.

Has anyone tried it? Is it effective?

    Which people? What rooms?

That cigarette detector is probably just be a regular smoke detector with higher sensitivity, which would be annoying and not useful for fire safety to have an alarm every time the stove is turned on or a candle is lit.

If it's for tenants, the ease of disabling as soon as you leave would make it kinda pointless and make it easier for them to claim they never smoke inside maybe.
If it's for passersby or guests or something it might be more useful.

    • Thanks, this is a great point!

^has a good point. Alternatively for long-term tenants hire a private investigator to ensure you don't allow any filthy smoking losers in, and be very thorough during inspections.

  • How about just putting a no smoking sign up, have you got those hanging up?

  • Another idea additional to the detector, increase the bond to cover ozone air purifier
