not sure i'd want some stranger selecting my fruit, veg and meat…

    • +1

They wouldn't be a stranger…..they would soon become your new 50%off best mate :)

Thought I would add that I looked around the myfruit site and you can select separate lots (usually 500g or 1kg bundles) of the meat or choose from a number of prepackaged parcels if the items in it suit you.

      • they would soon become your new 50%off best mate

can you vouch for their hygiene when they select and pack your food ???

        • +3

You have a reasonable point but if they were not being hygienic (wearing gloves etc) it wouldn't do their business reputation much good for the repeat business that their hoping such a reduced offer will bring. Would it be much different to the plebs at woollies restocking in the middle of the night when customers can't monitor them, and having to wash the fruit when you take it home anyway. I assume and by the images that the meat is shrink wrapped the same as the supermarkets as well.

can you vouch for the hygeine of the person that packs your meat at coles / woolworths etc?

        • So true. I share jv's concerns but have to concede: unless I actually cut the meat off the cow myself I can't think of any situation where I can purchase fresh meat/produce without having to trust that it's been handled hygenically up to that point.

          edit: hey! you're not theonlymatt

        • packs your meat at coles / woolworths etc?

I don't get meat, fruit of veg from coles or woolworths…

i get them from my local butcher and fruit shop where i know the owner and staff and am confident about the hygiene there…

        • +2

Yeah but unless they do their own on-site slaughtering and butchering, someone else could still be beating your meat without you knowing.

        • Yeah but unless they do their own on-site slaughtering

i feel more comfortable that the meat i get from my local butcher is more likely to be hygienic than some warehouse somewhere outside the scrutiny of day to day customers…

          jv = pessimist

        • +1

Woolworths & Coles would have better systems in place to reduce the risk of contamination than some mum and dad butcher shop. They would also be more likely to throw away bad product. But if thinking you know the owner makes you feel safe…

$15.99 for 1kg of chicken breast?!?? are these chickens fed on gold nuggets? 50% doesn't help much when prices are so much higher…

small apples $4.99 per kg -> sunday markets $1 per kg

$6/kg for pork cutlets??? Where is your butcher getting his meat from? ;)

I've tried a couple of these so called 'budget' butchers that have much better prices than the supermarkets and have never been satisfied with the quality, so went back to shopping at Coles/Woollies. The butchers I see that set themselves up right outside the supermarket (or even just in the same centre) only seem to compete on a few items or have their specials on items the supermarket doesn't have on special, so I'm still inclined to buy most items from the supermarket rather than the butcher.

Compared to supermarket prices I thought this sites prices were on par, maybe a few dollars higher but at $80 worth for $49 I still think I'm gunna be in front.

  • No wonder we have high inflation rate!

  • UPDATE: I got my first order now and was very happy with it. Spoke to them about some items before I ordered and again once they arrived - Excellant customer service. Wasn't completly happy with the "bugdet" steak I got, especially seeing I cooked it that night, but all the higher quality cuts that have since been frozen and then thawed to cook have been good. The chicken filo's have been the best so far, but maybe that's just cause they where something different that I noramlly wouldn't buy.
