Cheapo Desktop Recommendations?

Hey guys,

I'm after an el cheapo desktop computer and thought ozbargain would be the place to ask..

Maybe an ex govt one or something..

I only really need it for basic word processing and the odd Photoshop adjustment.

There was something recently around the $180 mark on here, does anyone remember what they were?

Cheers

The Optiplex 9010 and 9020's are the best value refurbs for sure

  • So were these on sale on the weekend? D'oh!

There's a 9020 on Gumtree near me for $180, but it said its got a WiFi toggle.

Would there be much difference between buying from the deals mentioned and Gumtree?

    • ebay deal offer 3-6months warranty , if that matters at all

if not, just grab from gumtree but make sure you can test it working fine before paying

list the spec. here for comparison

      9020 comes with 4th gen intel, could be i3 dual cores or i5 4cores 4threads , or i7 4cores 8threads

8gb ram would be minimum that you'd like

and preferably SSD as storage drive, though cheap to put 1 in yourself

  • What suburb are you in OP?

    • Newcastle/ Lake Macquarie area

      • I got quite a few that would suit you perfectly but cant help you there.

You need a Core i5 2nd or 3rd gen with at least 4GB RAM but preferably 8GB. Hard disk size is not too important as most of these have at least 250GB or 500GB hard disk.
Expect to pay between $120 and $170 depending on the specs and inclusions

  • Cheers for the info guys. As for the WiFi. Do they come with built in cards or do you have to plug the USB style in them?

    • PCIE cards are usually the factory fitted default, if it has a Usb dongle that usually means whoever was using it has bought it as an additional add-on / accessory

Most ex-gov or ex-education desktops do not have Wifi installed as they always connected via Ethernet.
