Bathroom Light/Fan Replacement/Installation

Hi OzBargain,

What's a reasonable amount to pay to get a light/heat exhaust fan, such as this,
https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-3-in-1-led-light-with-exhaus…, replaced by a sparky in the bathroom?

Would it be cheaper to buy the part direct from bunnings then have the sparky come down or would the cost difference be negligeable?

Thanks!

  • I had a ceiling fan installed where there was only a light fixture and it was $180 - Not the same but might be able to use it as a reference point.

In saying that, he did 3 of them for $180 each and it literally took him an hour…..

    • You could've gone and become an electrician, but no, you had to be a lawyer.

  • -1

99% of sparkies are bastards they wont want to do it unless they can buy it at their price and give you the full retail cost making them even more.
Call out + travel shouldn't cost more than $100 for a 10 minute job

  • Sound like you missed the aldi deal where they sell bathroom lp with installation included for $180. Maybe wait for another year to see aldi come out with same deal and get Bunnings to match. But I think $100-120 should be reasonable

  • Can't wait another year. The fan has stalled and the heat bulbs have blown. I can replace the bulbs myself but thought to replace the entire unit so I have a functional exhaust again.

Didn't know aldi had deals that had service included. How much is it not on special, including installation?

  • The sparky I use doesn’t mind if I buy the product that he installs as long as it’s not a dodgy product it’s ok

  • $100-200
Take the cover of the old one to Bunnings, see if you can get one the same size/shape or bigger so you don’t have to patch gyprock.
