My post on Urbanspoon for Ecco in Fremantle WA used two scoopons - a world of difference

http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/338/1427115/restaurant/Perth/Ecc… (I will note that the staff were very nice both times.)

I went with a friend on the very day the first lot of scoopons became valid. The seafood platter was very generous. Overflowing. There was a good sized dish of aoli and little potato chips (shoestring fries), a large bucket of chili mussels, whitebait, calimari, octopus, olives and feta (I think there was feta). My dining companion loves to eat. I don't eat that much. She put a serious dent in the seafood platter, I had a little bit. Then she ate some of her pasta, No room for dessert. There were three choices of dessert that night. We used a subsequent scoopon more recently and after reading the reviews (but before the second visit), I was very confused. It sounded nothing like our experience. This second time we went very early friday night. only tiamisu. Where are the other desserts? They should be fully stocked at this point in the weekend. The seafood platter has been seriously downsized. No aoili. no feta. Less calamari, a bit more whitebait. The chili mussels were less than half the size when we first used the scoopon deal. This was disappointing. I have been there twice with this friend and had planned on taking someone more discerning, but am hesitant as the value has gone down and the desserts are nonexistent. This is not what was advertised on the scoopon. The thing that is even more disappointing is that Ecco sold a second lot of vouchers via scoopon. If they couldn't keep up with offering a variety of desserts or they couldn't offer the same seafood platter, they should not have offered a second lot.Very disappointed in both ecco and scoopon. I will use my remaining vouchers, but won't be back to ecco after this.

  • I know what u mean. I bought a voucher for a place in Melbourne, was really impressed the first time, but like u bought more than one, the 2nd time it was all downsized, & the place constantly sell deal vouchers. The vouchers become the norm for some places by downsizing dishes.

  • I went to a place tonight ona Cudo voucher - Walters River Cafe in Bicton WA $30 for $75 of food & wine. There were 7 tables ranging from 2 to 6 people each. Every table was on a cudo, according to the waitress. There is a good chance I would not buy another. I can go w/ the entertainment book and get buy 1 get one free and $6.60 corkage. Why tie the money up, risking non usage, when it isn't that much of a better deal? The place didn't grab me and I have probably 25 - 30 vouchers that need to be used (and that is just restaurant ones)
