      for Sear
and you can't cook rice on grill.

    • onions too

    • Aussies

      • -5

Only the ones who don't know how to bbq meat.

        • Grill marks are a thing of the past now. The more colour and sear the better, so you're better off finishing on one of these than trying to get grill marks for appearance at the cost of flavour.

*This is me assuming you mean cooking on a grill grate style hotplate. If not, ignore my comment

            @cvas:

Grill marks are a thing of the past now.

Only if you haven't got a clue about cooking meat.

            • @jv: grill marks just mean you have alternating stripes of over and under seared steak crust :)

              • -1

@SBOB: nothing to do with grill marks, everything to do with direct heat.

you might as well fry the meat if you're going to use this.

                • @jv: You're arguing about being a bbq master, and direct heat…in a thread about a GAS bbq

Regardless, if you don't know how to utilise a mixed cooking surface perhaps a few bbq cook books might help.

Sure glad I have a half hot plate for my Kamado. Versatility means you can utilise BBQs for more than just direct heat cooking over flame (or gas )

            • -2

@jv: Yo JV, grill marks are for hogs breath and sizzler style restaurants. But imma plus your comment anyway coz I like you.

        • Or the ones who do know how to cook or use their bbq to prepare more than one dish per meal.

          • -1

            @UncleRico:

Or the ones who do know how to cook or use their bbq

Then maybe you should refrain from commenting on things you don't know anything about.

            • @jv: No need to get upset or start post editing away any parts which don't support your confirmation bias. I'm just pointing out that bbq hotplates have perfectly practical usages, since some folk seemed very confused about the concept of cooking anything other than steak on theirs.

              • @UncleRico:

                No need to get upset

Not upset, I know how to bbq…

                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbecue

                • @jv: And yet for some reason, felt compelled to look up a wiki page to support your claimed knowledge.

One steak does not a bbq make…

                  • @UncleRico:

One steak does not a bbq make…

                    I do snags too…

                    • @jv: How bold.

If you can find a butcher who does mushroom, onion, corn, pineapple, egg and bacon flavoured sausages, you'll be able to rival the taste sensation afforded to those of us who use both a grill and plate in our barbecuing.

OK, I lied. I'd never put pineapple on my bbq…

Who only cooks meat on their bbq?

    Thanks!!!
Sometimes like to cook onion, mushrooms and bacon!!

    Thanks!!
Picked up a Q2000 from TGG eBay over Black Friday weekend and was on the lookout for a solid plate.
Delivery estimate is after Christmas, but totally worth it considering the covers seem to cost more than this plate!

    • crap, i have one and in the process of returning it.

  • I've got an older Q200 with the single piece grill.
I wonder if you can use 2 of these (and still get enough airflow for the gas, etc).
    Anyone tried it?

    • +2

Hi, I can't answer your question directly.

However just be aware when you buy a Q2000 Grill plate to use on a Q200 they include 2 Steel brackets which fit over the single central plate support and create two new ones.

If you try to use the split plates without the new bracket the plate may not be stable.

      • Thanks for that. Sounds like buying 2 of these won't work without a new bracket.
        Cheers!

      • +1

I have an older Weber. Phoned Weber and they posted me the 2 steel brackets for the new split grill plates to sit on. Didn't buy the 2 split grill plates from them directly, coz I went and bought a solid half plate from TGG and then a grill half plate second hand (people buy a pair, and then sometimes sell one off). Works a treat.

I wouldn't personally put two solid plates side by side, read something online about how the Weber works on convection and using all solid cooking surface, would build up too much heat or the burners not get enough air or something…

The solid half plate has to be on a specific side, can't remember which for now. Again, for convection.

What is wrong with me! I have one in decent condition but couldnt resist from purchasing. Such a good price.

    • Possibly obsessive compulsive disorder.

  • Got one for my q200. As far as I can tell they are the same size. Thanks!

  • Probably doesn't fit a Baby Q right?

    • +2

      Yeah too big

I just got a full plate for my baby q from BBQs Galore, made by campaquip.

Works well, and was only around 40 bucks in their recent sale.

      • Yep got the same one, great plate.

    • you saved me some embarrassment…

  • I need the family size one. Wish they had a sale on them.

Anyone know if you an get aftermarket ones that are better?

  • Awesome! Needed one but find the pricing for Weber accessories usually quite overpriced… Thanks! :)

  • Thanks OP got one. Awesome find been wanting the hot plate.

  • … pondering using angle grinder to convert from flat plate in to grill plate

  • Going up in price now

  • Wouldn't fit my weber q305 au would it?

  • Up to $43 now?

  • Thank you, bought one.

  • Price gone up?

  • Does anyone know if this fits in the q3100?

  • nice find but back to normal price now

  • Price gone up. Typical Amazon

    • -2

Yea I know right! These companies just want to profit rather than being charitable. Absolutely ridiculous! What is this world coming to.

      • You lot complaining that you didn't get this on sale? You expect things to be on sale 24x7?

        • -2

Hmm.. you need to book an appointment with Dr Sarcasm. He lost his #1 patient.

        • -3

Hey dude. Still waiting for your feedback. Seen the doc? 😂

      • Hahaha! Twice in the last week I have been looking at a price. I then add it to cart and it still shows at the sale price. Then I click Proceed and the price has gone up at the final page of the checkout. Very misleading.

What happend for this sale just now was, I opened the deal via OzBargain on my Downstairs PC and thought "that looks good" added it to Cart then went upstairs to get my wallet. Got distracted, ended up using my upstairs PC to access the cart and it was showing as $28 then on the final page would go to $34. Even the listing was still $28.

To fix it, I went back downstairs, the order page was opened on my downstairs PC (awaiting CC details) so I managed to get it for $28 still.

  • Last I checked the price was $45.its $53 now lol.

  • -1

Does this fir the family weber q?

    • +1

No - the Q, Baby Q and Family Q all have unique sized plates.

  • Outstanding deal. Sorry I missed it.

  • Not sure why anyone would own a Webber and not already have one, y’all just using the grill lol, first thing I added with mine.

    • Oh, I have one. I now have two.

      • +1

I was sad I missed it. The plate was the first thing I bought, have been considering a second for a while too.

        • Yeah unfortunately Weber is one of those brands that never really seem to go on sale. So as soon as I saw it, I jumped on it.

    • +2

      Y'ALL

  • Just here for another one of Jv's 66000+ negged comments

  • The poor man's version is to lay a $3 teflon BBQ sheet over the existing grill bars.

  • Realised I have the Baby Q 1000 and bought this.

Anyone interested in this for cost price? Happy to delivery around western Sydney.

    • I would love it, but I'm based in Melbourne :(

    • I will take it!
