Put Myki Card on Hold

Greetings,

I have a MyKi yearly pass (commuter club) and I’ll be away for next 10 weeks. Is there any way I can put my MyKi pass on hold or get refund for the unused portion? I tried searching on the internet but I could only find limited information. Customer care weren’t that helpful either. They basically said to return the card and they will issue a refund. Just wondering what others with yearly pass have done in the past when they have been away for few weeks. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You cannot put a hold on the card but yes you can get a re FYI Nd as the customer service explained to you.

Searching “refund yearly myki” in Google came up with this page which provides all the information you should need.

    • Thanks. I’ll have a look

How is that not being helpful? Because they didn't do what you wanted? :P

Why do you think their answer isn't helpful?

return the card and they will issue a refund

      • Thanks however returning is not an option in my case.

    • Exactly. Returning is not an option as I’ll lose the discount. The commuter club is an arrangement through work. I wanted them to somehow extend my yearly pass by the unused portion or provide refund for the unused portion.

Haha it's a one year pass. It's not their problem you aren't using it for part of said year.

  • commuter club is run by your company HR or charity maybe they can help

    • Thanks. I contacted them but unfortunately they can’t put a stop either.

Just a word on warning for getting a pass refunded.

The refund calculation will deduct the used portion at the full rate not the discounted rate. So make sure that you calculate the expected refund so that you are not shocked when it is processed.

We’ll refund an annual Commuter Club myki Pass if it’s been used for less than 293 days. That’s because an annual Commuter Club myki Pass is discounted to give you 365 days travel for the price of 293.

If you buy and activate a 365-day Zone 1+2 Commuter Club myki Pass and apply for a refund or myki Pass conversion on the 210th day of the pass, we’ll deduct the cost of a 210-day pass from the full cost of your original 365-day pass.

    • That is a good heads up for the unwary. Sounds like finding someone else to take the pass might be a better idea (if not, strictly, legal).

    • Thanks. I didn’t know that!

Ummmm you already got your answer

Customer care weren’t that helpful either. They basically said to return the card and they will issue a refund

So they told you how to get a refund as you asked. Return the myki, get a refund. When you return in 10 weeks, buy another yearly.

    • Thanks. However, this yearly pass is part of commuter club in which the ticket is discounted and the money is deducted by your work out of your pay. So returning is not an option unfortunately.

      • So returning is not an option unfortunately.

So why have you been asking about a refund?

this yearly pass is part of commuter club in which the ticket is discounted and the money is deducted by your work out of your pay

Then you're out of luck, you can't pause a yearly pass, its part of the yearly ticket terms.

In your case you would have known you have a 10 week holiday coming up in the next 12 months and planned that in when selecting it.

The best you can do, assuming the T&Cs allow it, is to loan it to a friend who might give you some cash in exchange for using it for 10 weeks.

Report it as lost/stolen and then continue using it once you're back =)

It will be loaded with your remaining days and doesn't activate until you touch on.

    • Brilliant idea! I’ll try this if all else fails. Thanks!

    • It will be loaded with your remaining days and doesn't activate until you touch on.

Is this listed anywhere to say it does this?

        I've done this before.

        https://www.mymyki.com.au/NTSWebPortal/Common/Replace/Replac…

        Myki pass and myki money:

If your original myki holds a myki pass or myki money , PTV will automatically transfer the remaining value to your replacement card.

        • I've done this before.

But that doesn't say it will 'pause' your passes until you touch on again.

@JimmyF: How are they meant to know when the mail will come / when you will go to the station?

I've done this for myself a few times.

            Example of one of my cards;

1 days, Zone 1-Zone 2, Not yet active

Thank you once again. Your idea worked! Touched on the replacement card after nearly 10 weeks and the remaining days got loaded.
