AmEx Travel Credit Question

I'm booking a flight with my $400 AMEX travel credit, as the total flight cost is less than $400, can I use the remainder to eg. add a night stay or car hire? As far as I can tell this is not possible through the AMEX Travel website.

  • The wording on the booking page is
"You may redeem one Travel Credit per booking"

But I would think as per other booking websites you can combine flight, hotel, car hire in a single booking, doesn't appear possible with AMEX Travel.

I used mine for multiple experience previously and it was fine.

However, as hotel/car hire are different tabs, I have a feeling you can't combine them

Edit: just tried it. It seems after booking a flight, you can 'add a car' as well as 'add a hotel'. You are then able to checkout

    • same with me..but need to add hotel for the whole trip not just one night…so in the end it's not much cheaper

Actually you can but you have to book e.g. th hotel for the whole trip not just one night..anyway that's been my experience.

    e.g.
i booked a flight, travel for 7 days, and tried to add 1 night stay in hotel (had like $20 left), and couldn't, just could add only 7 nights stay

    • Ah, I found the "Bundles" tab but as you stated, the car hire would need to be for the entire duration of the return flight trip.

  • I found I couldn't combine the things I wanted last time I tried this. I gave a call to customer service and they booked it all over the phone for me.

    • I'll give this a go
      Thanks

  • I have found that exactly the same flights, when booking flights through the AMEX portal, are more expensive than going through the QANTAS website or through travel websites. $450 to spend sigh

    • Yeah, such is the nature of AMEX travel - every $100 of travel credit is realistically more like $60. Plus there are nowhere near as many flight options as you can find elsewhere.

      • Bummer I never knew that. Hoping that hotels is a different/better situation?
