Cheap bore pump setup for lawn sprinklers

Hey guys,

With water restrictions getting tighter everywhere I thought it might be time to get a bore put down.

We're on the coast and they're fairly common.

Just wondering the best way to get out of it for a reasonable price. A mate did say aldi sell pumps every now and then.

Has anyone put one in recently? What did it cost?

Cheers

  • You are probably looking at about $300-$500 for the pump depending on the flow and pressure you require and then maybe another $400 for labour and parts to sink the spear and connect it all up. DAB pumps are good but there are cheaper alternatives out there. Where and which coast are you referring to?

  • Seems like a lot of effort and cost just to water your lawns.

I put in an Aldi pump for my water tanks at home and it's sufficient for that type of usage but for a coastal waterpump I'd go with a good brand name one with a stainless impeller.

In another lifetime I sunk several bores manually in coastal areas, average depth to the watertable up to 10 metres or so.

Grundfos is a good, but not cheap brand to consider. It'll last for years.

As you're running lawn sprinklers, you're going to need a decent pump that can supply the volume and pressure your sprinklers require. aka something similar to mains pressure.

Your $99 aldi pump isn't going to do that.

  • Be mindful of smell, there is a lot of rotted vegetation in some coastal bores.

    • As well as saline water, which only increases as more bores concentrate the salt in the water table.
