Any TopBuy.com.au Review?

I want to buy a camera lens from Topbuy. They are selling it pretty cheap. Anyone have feedbacks about them? I've been reading some mixed reviews.

Also, will they cover the GST/stamp duty if its over $1000?

Appreciate any feedback before I make the purchase.

  • If the item is being shipped into Australia from overseas and its value (including the delivery fee) is over AUD$1000 then the recipient must pay any duties payable. (ie the person the package is posted to is liable for any import tax, gst, stamp duty applicable)

  • I would not recommend buying from them directly, I am still awaiting for delivery for over nearly 6 weeks now and they did not respond to my email and I will never deal with them again!
You can buy whatever they sell from ebay and pay via Paypal as you have better dispute resolution in place in case of non delivery as I had experience.

  • Had a great experience buying ~$3000 worth of camera gear with TopBuy just before Christmas 2010.
Although I had a nervous wait on Christmas Eve, they arrived just in time!

  • G_Man, will give a call.

  • Dear All,

I will not buy anything from this website again. If the item you receive has any problem. It's impossible to get refund.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab with $470. Receive it in 4 days. The phone is LOCKED. They contact the supplier to send me the unlocked key twice and it is never working. They issue me with a RA (Return Authorisation Letter). So I ship it back to supplier and went locally to buy the same model, same color identical phone for $700. Which means it is more expensive than what I bought. Then a few days later, the supplier send me back the same phone. Claiming the phone is not locked. Will not give me refund. So I end up with 2 same phone. Finally TOPBUY.COM claiming the supplier using the same key they provide to unlock the phone which means when the phone came on my hand it is LOCKED. They unlocked it and send it back to me and saying it is my fault.

Think about it if the key they provided is working. I already unlock it and don't need to go to local shop to pay extra and buying the same thing.

They trust the supplier but not the customers. So be careful, if you need to send something back to them.

The supplier may play some tricks and make you suffer all the cost.

LAST COMMENT - It's Terrible and don't buy anything here. Finally I end up paying $1159 for 2 samsung galaxy tab which i only need 1 for $470. I waste extra $700…

I wish I could understand what he wrote.

    • so the tablet is a phone?

Fairly speaking, I think you should have been patient until you got the answer from them other than buying a second phone and ended up with this result.

  • Never buy from this website. It is just a shell Australian Company. Nothing is actually here. Warehouses, products, service centre and etc are all in China. Not accountable. False claims on their products. Takes excessively long time to arrive. Shipping charged individually, although it all came from the exact same location in Shenzen China. Item arrived 3.5 weeks after payment cleared. Wrong item was sent! A total nightmare. Lucky I didnt make big purchases. Beyond dodgy.

  • G_man,
I'm writing in this forum out of desperation.
I've received a product purchased(28/3/2013) from Topbuy on 8/4/2013. There was a problem with the battery not charging to full.

I've written to Customer Support many times now, from 13/4. The only reply I've received (17/4) is that the RA team will provide a respond.

    My reference number is ##80768##

Can you help expedite and provide a satisfactory outcome? To also show that Topbuy is a reputable company when it comes to handling warranty related issues.

Note:I'm unable to PM you as your account does not accept messages.

I ordered havaianas from topbuy when they were $10. I ordered the exact same size as I have currently but the ones I ordered from topbuy are much smaller and I don't fit in them. I realised they weren't genuine as they didn't have the seal and came in a dodgy box that they normally dont come in. From my one experience I dont trust that they sell genuine products and I would stay away.

Yep, I'm just glad it was only $10…not that I can complain. I got a refund via Paypal, right before my dodgy knock-offs arrived in the mail. They weren't the ones pictured on the website and were definitely fakes.

Personally, given my experience with this purchase, I wouldn't go anywhere near them.

Also got the Havis deal and they were fake, also sent the wrong sizes and styles whilst claiming they were "better".
Also frequently they claim to have stock in Australia but this is not the case.

Be prepared to lose the money you spend.

  • williamgrahamnw,

On hindsight, you should have checked this column first before buying.

From my experience, they write big claims but when it comes to fulfilling, there are many ways they try to avoid. for example, in my case, they replied after a long, long wait but then told me to send my product to a sydney address for them to check???

all my savings buying from them would have been washed away in the courier fees to send the product back to them when the manufacturer is also available where i am and i can easily send the product to the manufacturer service centre for warranty claims (as advertised by TopBuy). To this end,, TopBuy certainly did not fulfill their claim. My advice is not to buy from them. Only worth it if there is no problem with your product but how will you be sure that there will be no problems with the product?

  • 2 words: Disappointing. Avoid.

I've shopped online with no fuss for years but these guys are the first hitch I've had.

I thought I'd give them a go given they have an Australian contact number. My mistake. My trust has turned out to be misplaced - they stated they could price match a lens I was after (they even saw the link to item) and stated I just needed to purchase from them at their full price and send a screen shot of the price to be matched. Not unusual, Expedia follows this same procedure.

They only informed me by email 3 days later that according to their policy, the above advice was incorrect. I immediately replied stating that if they were not going to honour what their staff told me, they were to cease all processes in sending the item and to issue me with a full refund.
Their emails were "autoreplies" up until the item arrived - despite my explicit instructions not to send it out. When I finally got a real reply from them, they did acknowledge their mistake but still won't honour the price match.

Bottom line: they didn't know their own policies and forced the sale by shipping out the item even though it was their mistake.

    AVOID.

  • In March I purchased a Nokia Lumia 925 from Topbuy. It lasted on a few months and no longer functioned. At my cost and after contacting Topbuy, the phone was returned to be repaired. This was in September 2014. It is now March 2015, 6 months since I returned the Phone. I have phoned the company at least 10 times. Sent emails. No one has got back to me. The only email I received said they would look into the issue. Last week I phoned them, and said I would have to take this to court if they did not either fix and return the phone or refund the payment. I was told by the operator, that if I wanted to take this to court it was my problem. No one wants to do anything about the problem. The company will not return my calls. I will probably have to take this to court for $412.60 what a waste of time. Really poor company, I would never deal with them again.

  • They have cheap prices.

Be careful what to buy from them ,,,if something consumable no warranty needed , you can buy from them , if something you do care about warranty don't buy from them

  • Surprised to see this thread resurface. I can fully understand a shop making mistakes (no one is perfect) as long as they try to fix it.. but unfortunately from what I read there's hardly a positive help coming from Topbuy to address the concerns. I'm just glad I didn't end up buying from them.

  • Yes, Fully agree. Don't buy from TopBuy. I just don't understand how they can still function? They have been blacklisted on Ozbargain too.

  • I am also unhappy with TopBuy.
On 11 Dec 2016 purchased some jewelry for the wife.
Three items from New Seasons Jewellery range, and one item from Crystal Jewellery Gift Sets

Multiple contacts with them, then the three items arrived just after xmas.
    As for the outstanding item…

27 jan – "…being packed and dispatched directly from our supplier's warehouse.
In this instance, I have raised this issue with our supplier…"

The order screen now shows this part of the order was dispatched 14 Jan… but still not received

    http://imgur.com/zkhiuQX

Tracking with Australia Post says "…item hasn't been scanned yet. " – so was never accepted by courier
    https://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/track.html#/track?id=353…

I have requested they send me a Tax Invoice for the order – which should clearly display their ABN
