[StartHere] More Cancelled Transaction - Vodafone

Hi Steve,

I purchased a SGS2 through MBC, and did everything correctly but the money never came into my account. So I raised an enquiry about a month and a half ago, and just got news today that the merchant has declined the transaction. There's no way for me to respond to this anymore, and I don't understand why it's been declined. The only thing in that network response is this: "The most likely reason is that the sale has been attributed to another channel." That's not even a reason, that's just what the operator thinks happened. What's going on please?

I was a new customer to Vodafone, coming from 3, and I went into the Vodafone website through MBC. This is my first experience with MBC, and so far it's not been smooth :(

Thanks.

  • I had similar problem though mine was the handset being cancelled from Voda and the MBC payment obviously being declined even though I was a returning long term Voda customer and had re-passed the credit check and jumped through all the hoops. All worked out for me though as I bought outright and went with Optus prepaid.

    • The only reason I went with Vodafone was because of the MBC cashback. I wouldn't have bought it if there wasn't the cashback, since Vodafone coverage in my area sucks so bad. Do you think I'd have a case if I brought this up with Vodafone and returned the phone?

    Hi soupiejr,

Sorry for this disappointment, Vodafone tend to cancel transactions without a reason, I've petitioned the affiliate network to at least give a reason however they've said "Due to the multiplicity of reports and different departments involved the Merchant does not provide a reason specific to each instance of a transaction being declined. Reasons for declining include credit check, cancellation, coverage, fraud, not last referrer." This applies to enquiries made on missed transactions too it seems.

    Steve.

    • Is there a review process to this? Should I submit in more evidence that I've purchased this online? I find it hard to believe in this day and age of electronic commerce that a customer can be cheated out of a cashback when they've jumped through hoops to make sure that everything's been done according to the instructions, and in the end just be given a "No." answer. I know you're also stuck at the behest of a giant corporation such as Vodafone too, but I hope you can see things from my point of view too.

If the service is this unreliable, it'll be hard for customers to place their faith in MBC whenever they're contemplating a purchase. At best, your service will just be an after-thought, and not a source of influence in their decision-making.

As the merchant has already responded to an enquiry there is little else we can do unfortunately.

I do understand that it's frustrating when your cashback claim is denied when you've done all that you can to ensure it tracked correctly, at the end of the day it is up to the merchant to approve or otherwise any transaction and/or enquiry and unfortunately we don't have any infulence with them.

I agree with your sentiments totally, cashback should not be a source of influence in a decision-making process, rather as an added bonus for a purchase decision that has already been made.

        • dude its not frustrating, its expensive!!

  • soupiejr, first and foremost, retain all evidences pertaining to the transaction. Secondly try resolving the problem via MBC (which it looks you have already), and if MBC won't honour their deal, go through the TIO.

If it comes to having to deal with the TIO, I heavily advise you to ask for further compensation, perhaps for time lost without a mobile phone service. Again, perhaps two months worth of credit, or for them to waiver two months of charges. Perhaps something else reasonable to your liking?

I find the TIO an excellently effective means of getting what one wants when dealing with telecommunications companies.

However, you will need to lodge a claim via the TIO first., which you can do online, or over the phone.

The TIO will give MBC a certain timeframe to resolve the issue. If it hasn't been resolved by then, they will contact you and deal with the matter on your behalf.

I can't stress enough the importance of not accepting a settlement offered by either MBC or the TIO that is not what you originally asked for, or something better.

Any telecommunications company will avoid not going along with ANY settlement that is less than at least $1,000, as it will cost them more if the matter were to go to court.

This is where the TIO complaint should start:
    http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

PS: I've had a run-in with both 3 and Vodafone, and had the issue resolved to my satisfaction, hence my advice based upon personal experience.

    All the best,
    isa.

  • I just got the same message:

    <—Network response—>
The merchant has declined this enquiry. The most likely reason is that the sale has been attributed to another channel.
    <—End network response—>

If there is nothing more MBC can do then I have no choice but to do what isa has recommended. Alternatively is there any point if i call Vodafone directly to resolve this?

  • We've been in contact with the network that deals with Vodafone and provided you didn't provide any proof of purchase for your initial enquiry then we will be able to re-submit a new enquiry for missing transactions.

To do this please follow the procedure below, not following this procedure will result in the delay and possible cancellation of your enquiry:

    • Email your proof of purchase, email invoice or a scan of any paper invoice to [email protected], please include your MBC username in the email.
    • Open a new enquiry for the missing transactions providing the order number and as much detail as possible as per normal, also indicate in the enquiry that you have forwarded your proof of purchase to us.

We cannot guarentee that your enquiry will be resolved to your satisfaction but it is good to know that the network would like to work with us to try and get the cashback owed.

    Thanks, Steve.

    • Thanks, Steve. I'll give that a try!

      • soupiejr, how did you go? If that work out I'll do the same.

  • Pretty dissapointed that there was no resolution to this, despite the evidecne being sent.

I kinda feel my transation would be rejected soon. Placed an order in early October. And still tracking. If I knew it would be rejected, I wouldn't sign up online. Signing over phone would be pretty easy to get $5 discount.

  • I got a few Vodafone cancel transactions too :(

  • Well with so many ppl screwed out of 200 $ this should not even be mentioned as a deal any more

  • I think the reason for cancelled transaction can be:
    1. NRMA or other member discounts on cap
    2. Where vodafone is already running a special. (like previously $29 cap+$10 mobile for SG2 to $29 +$0)
    3. Choosing a $29 cap for a good phone, when vodafone thinks, they will loose money.

But I think vodafone is not genuine or consistent in honouring not only moneyback amount, but also special discounts sometimes in caps. You have to fight for it.

I had NRMA discount + 3 months free access and I have to fight for it to be implemented in my bill. I am selecting them for having cheap phones plus voda- voda and voda- 3 free. Most of my friends have vodafone.

That said, I had few Dell and dicksmith successful transactions from moneybackco in the past. Getting money after 3 months was a bit annoying, but when I received cashback for my Dell laptop I was more than happy :)
