PS4 Boxing Day Sales Prices?

Hi All,

I've had my eye on a replacement for my venerable PS3 for awhile now. I held off during the (as best I could tell) smoking hot Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals, and am now feeling a big ol' dose of regret for not pulling the trigger.

I'm pinning my hopes on Boxing Day sales getting me back in the game (boom tish), but am wondering how hopeful I should be for another $230 PS4 or $360 PS4 Pro deal.

Anyone in the know care to speculate?

Cheers!

  • FYI, you're buying a console while will be superseded in 12 months…

    • Yeah I know - but in the knowledge that any games I buy I can play on the new console (full scope of backwards compatibility TBC of course). Also, hence chasing the best deal possible… don't want to blow too much cash on it! Will probably use for trade-in deal or somesuchthing when PS5 comes out.

      • Yeah the concern would be peripherals, extra controllers etc. Wouldn't be worth much when it moves into the next generation

you've made it this far wait for the ps5

I would say that PS5 will be much more expensive at launch but it looks like OP is planning on getting it anyway.
Waiting another year might be the best option unless a really good deal comes along

That's kinda where my head's at. I thought $230 for a new PS4 500Gb was a pretty good deal? With plenty of games at the $20-$30 price point, it's a (relatively) cheap year of gaming I think. FYI I'm not just shopping for myself… I have a gaming-mad 11yo in the house to consider ;-)

  • Previous years have had some good boxing day PS4 deals but that's no guarantee this year will.

  • Keep an eye on Gumtree, with PS5 around the corner I'd imagine people will be looking to offload their PS4 gear. Could pick up a very tidy deal.

  • haven't had Playstation for a while… can new playstation ie ps4/5 play copied games? or do you still need to install a chip, to do that?

    • Too hard basket these days, what with the endless updates and online content

  • Did anyone else who bought a ps4 from amazon for 226 or whatever just get a refund for $30?
Got an email saying because they're reducing the price even further they refunded me 30.
This was the fortnite bundle 500gb

Just buy it with a 28 Degrees Mastercard and not worry about price drops for 12 months since you'll have price protection.

    • Damn, 12 months is really awesome if they dont give you a hard time for each claim. I cant think of many items whose prices dont move within 12 months.

      • Yeah they haven't with any of the recent claims I've made. Plus multiple claims.

It's excellent for electronics/tech. Because these days I just buy at launch at full price and not worry about sale prices down the line. Enjoy the product from day 1 AND get a lower price.

Examples: S10+ 512gb, bought at RRP, claimed $620 or so back.

Wife's iPhone XS, around $400 back (recent JB sale price)

        • Nice, thanks for the insight, gonna register straight away.

Guess you just have to set a 11-month reminder after a big expense to check back on the lower prices.

    • FYI They don't do price protection anymore. Lucky you

You mean for new applications? Literally just got a $351 claim approved this morning.

EDIT: Yeah it seems you're right. They've stopped issuing price protection on all new policies.

  • @Aikendrum , This is a big mood.

I've been fighting w/ myself over the question if I should wait for the ps5 or just cop a cheap ps4 & use that for a while.
I have a Switch currently and love it but I also love racing, sport and other games which the switch cannot support to a high degree/or even have a game for. (Eg - Ref. FIFA 19/20 etc.) Plus the games & accessories are way too expensive, and I feel as if im going to spend as much on switch stuff which I won't enjoy as much as I would on a PS4 or even a xbox one.

So I think I'm going to finally cop a console on Boxing Day but my major concern is with regards to if there's going to be any decent sales on Boxing Day, especially as im still kicking myself that I didn't get one on BF.

Do you guys think it'll be worthwhile / if there will be any decent offers ?? I've gotta start planning my strategy if that's the case so I know what I want :P

and yes, ive finally made an account - been a long time follower of ozbargain; just finally thought it would be time

I'm exactly in the same situation, I went for a switch at 360 during BF and then realised only mario kart is of interest for me

Ps4 pro was at 300$ after shop back on Amazon, hope there's something as good coming our way!

Only Mario Kart? Not Breath of the Wild? Mario Odyssey? Smash Bros? Mario Maker? Pokemon? Fire Emblem?

I mean I understand these aren't for everyone, but if you were only wanting Mario Kart, why didn't you ever get a Wii U?

        • Hah it was to play with my gf, and although I reckon Zelda could have been fun, the others are really not up my alley.

I guess I prefer realistic looking kinda games and had a hard time with the cartoonish look of all switch games (although I heard there's the witcher 3 on switch!)

@rwandrall: Oof. That hurts to read.

I get what you mean, but you're missing out on so many great experiences with that mentality

            • @Ninternet: Haha I know I know. Besides Minecraft, old strategy games and Mario kart, I'm having a hard time fighting it!

  • Christmas purchases have in many stores long time returns, buy one now and if in boxing day you find a better offer buy it and return it unopened with previous receipt. Stick it to the man.

  • Hmmm let me pull put my crystal ball and I'll get back to you
