Oppo A9 2020 ~= $355 AUD. Good Buy ?

Hi, everyone,

I have been looking for a mid range phone for a while and finally find this Oppo that might suit me. I am seeking opinions from you experts. Thanks in advance.

Some info about Oppo A9 2020:

  • Price : >=$397. 15% off code "plateau" brings it to $337.45 plus shipping ($15)
  • 128G Storage /4GRAM
  • Dual Sim + dedicated microSD slot (a must)
  • Quad rear camera with ultra wide lens (a must)
  • Band28 (a must)
  • NFC yes (a must)
  • Snapdragon 665 (doesn't worry me)
  • 5000mAh battery

Detailed specs please see Oppo website

Seems it has everything I need/care. However, I have never spent more than $100 on a phone. Not confident of my choice, either. I haven't seen much discussion about this phone. It feels like "no one wants this phone but me".

Am I missing something here ? Or with $350 budget, what other phones would you suggest ?

Thank you very much.

I looked into these phones when i was buying a new one a few months ago. I would confirm with whoever you are purchasing from that it definitely has NFC. The oppo website says it does, however, i haven't found a website in Australia that lists the product as having NFC. I also contacted Telstra, who confirmed their model does not have NFC.

ColorOS = hardly any updates and probably stuck on Android Pie forever. No thanks.

No. It is an Oppo. Only ever owned two and had both of them refunded. Absolute garbage firmware and overlay. There is almost no updates for them and they are as buggy as hell.

If you want an Oppo that actually works and gets regular updates, get a One Plus.

    • Thank you for the suggestion. I had never heard of OnePlus before. A very quick search shows very good reviews. I will try to find one that provides what I need and is within my budget.

      Cheers.

I've got a Oppo ax5s. Rooted with a custom launcher it does the job.

I have an OPPO. Used an S10+ recently for a couple of weeks and found that it's not that different and not worth paying 3 times as much. I switched back to the OPPO. Can't go wrong at that price. Great camera.

  • Thank you very much everyone for all the inputs.

Ebay seller has confirmed A9 2020 does support NFC. That's great although their source is Oppo's website. Well, at least I can get a refund if it doesn't have NFC.

    Now..the real delima…
After reading all the mixed opinions, I am not sure if I should go with it. I'll look into the issues of ColorOS and the lack of update then make a decision. Sigh..more search.

    Thanks a lot.

Yeah, the device supports NFC but whether it's activated in Australian handsets is what i had trouble finding out.

      • Thank you very much again, crashloaded.

I am a little bit confused. Are you saying although the device sold in Australia supports NFC, the function might be disabled? Thanks.

Can I also ask your thoughts about LG Q60

        64G/3G
        Dual Sim + microSD slot
        Ultra wide lens
        NFC

It has everything I need but band 28 and it's $100 cheaper. Very tempting…

        • Yes, sometimes Ive found certain handsets have the feature listed on their website but not activated for certain countries.

If you look at good guys and Telstra, they don't list the handset as having NFC.

I also asked Telstra directly and they confirmed their model doesn't have NFC.

When it's clearly on the Australian Oppo website as having NFC. So I have no idea 😂

          • @crashloaded: Hi, :)

Just confirmed with The Goodguys. It has NFC.

Oppo Australia online chat told me
"I actually verified this and yes, it does support NFC. And this is actually a hardware component + software for the phone to use NFC.".

I also ask OPPO "is NFC activated and working? " the answer is yes.

            I guess it's a yes then.

            • @littlepcat: Cool! I think it's a good phone for the price if you don't mind coloros

              • @crashloaded: Thanks again.

Just saw a Xiaomi Redmi note 8T deal. Seems pretty good, too. It even comes with infrared port and no worry about ColorOs.

                • @littlepcat: My mate has a xiaomi and it's pretty impressive. Not sure what model it is.
