Best Option for Cheap Airfares to Thailand

Hey fellow ozbargainers,

just seeking some help on the issue of getting the cheapest flights to thailand.

I want to fly ~14/10 and return 12/11 with one other person. I know that with specials you can get flights quite cheap but at the moment they are close to 800 return (not including taxes i'm pretty sure).

The other has to go away in 2 weeks and wont return until a few days before we leave so they'll need their ticket soon to get their visa. Wondering whether it would worth waiting longer for my ticket hoping for a deal so it will end up cheaper for us?

Has anyone had much experience with cheap flights to SE asia and when the best sales are? Also if get them now what is the best way to find the cheapest flights? I've googled the main providers but wondering if there was a better way?

Cheers for the help

  • Hey, I went to Singapore and Thailand in Feb for ~600 pp total. I managed to score a really cheap $250 each way fare from Bris-Darwin-Singapore with Jetstar and a $50 each way flight from Singapore to Thailand with Tiger. Replace Tiger with Air Asia, and u may have similar luck, just keep an eye out for deals with Jetstar! Good luck

  • +1

SIngapore have a special right now for around $600 go to bestflights.com.au

  • If you dont want all the annoying stop overs Thai Airways have cheaper flights that leave on Tuesdays and Thurdays.
They are direct to Bangkok and include all meals, drinks and screen in the chair.
Not sure how much they were but after weighing it up we were happy to pay that little bit more for a quicker and better flight.

    • Agreed. You can lose too many hours waiting in Singapore, KL, etc, for your connection with other airlines. If you don't go with Thai Airways, make sure when you book a flight that it doesn't leave you stuck in your airlines hub city for more than 2-3 hours tops. What's the point of saving $100 with one fare compared to another if you sit in an airport all night. Very bad way to start a holiday. Pay a bit more & fly direct.

  • bear in mind, some people don't realized when they book this cheap airfare, sometimes you have to take longer transit time, some of them 12-24 hours.
if you are working, then you took your annual leave for this holiday, you don't maximize your time. except if you really want to enjoy the transit city.
example some people get $200 day pay, when you took your annual leave, same thing you get pay $200, but if you don't get to your destination earlier, same as you just waste may be $100 or $200 the value of your annual leave.
