Decent Windows Midi Software - Free

Hi all, the young lass in our household is getting a midi keyboard for Christmas. I recall Roland had their Sound canvas module available as a free download, but I can't seem to find it (not even on the 'Blackbeard' sites).

Any advice on reasonable software/modules that are Windows based?

I do 'have' Logic Pro on my iMac, however I thought maybe I could turn her PC into a 'Hackintosh' if needed.

  • Rosegarden will work inside the Linux sub-system for Windows, if you're up for getting Xming working for GUI Linux apps.

  • I used to use Noteworthy composer for putting together sheet notes through MIDI keyboard https://noteworthycomposer.com/

I think I used to use Audacity to just record audio straight from the keyboard, don't remember how I did it though.

LMMS i've been told is good, and is supposedly a free version of FL Studio https://lmms.io/download#windows
