Changing eBay account owner

So I'm about to turn 18, and I was wondering if it's possible to change the registered user from my dad's name to my name when I turn 18. I don't want to loose the feedback I've racked up from selling and having to start from scratch, but more importantly I don't want to lose my powerseller status especially after September 22 (IIRC) cause they're limiting multiple item BIN listings to stores and powersellers after that date.

Your best option would be to talk to the eBay live chat, they are very helpful

      helpful? I dont think so.

  • Don't waste your time - you are NOT allowed to transfer the ownership of a Ebay Account

You shouldn't have been selling or even USING the site in the first place, so the LAST thing you want to do is bring attention to the fact that you were breaching policy.

Just so you don't think I am being narky…

User Agreement - 1. Membership Eligibility.

Without limiting the foregoing, our services are not available to persons under 18 years of age. If you do not qualify, you must not use our services.

Your membership is not transferable. Your eBay account (including feedback and associated member UserID) may not be dealt with in any way. In particular, you must not allow others to use them and must not transfer or sell them to another party. While you are a member you must maintain control of your account. You are responsible for what occurs on that account and must report any unauthorised use of your account or UserID to us

  • Aight thanks guys. Guess I'll just have to create a new account when I do turn 18 then.
As for who uses it. It's a mix between me and my dad really, there are things on eBay we want, he pays for them, and we both have things to sell. Everything goes through him though considering he controls the money and bank accounts.

The issue for me isn't really who uses the account (although that this a T&C for eBay), it's more about how my dad isn't really that proficient with computers and he would rather me do the bidding and buying and what not for him. Faster, simpler, easier that way. After all I am the one who sits infront of the computer doing the clicking with him looking over my shoulder when we buy/sell things anyway, just that it's in his name.

    Edit:
I did forget to mention that I have already spoken to a rep via live chat, and he said I could do it just by changing the details of address. And as far as I could see, the only details they had was address and contact details. (Not sure what they do with your name and DOB when you sign up though, can't see a way to check that info).

You can easily change the registered name associated with the account.

Go to My eBay > Account > Personal Information > Email and Contact Information > Edit.

You can change registered name, physical address, email address and even eBay User ID.

As llama said it's not really allowed as stated in the User Agreement, but who takes any notice of that! :)

    • I was thinking of doing just that (suggested by the live chat rep as well lol)

      • The biggest issue you may have is changing the linked PayPal account (if it's in your Dad's name).

EDIT: Actually I just had a quick look, it seems easy enough to change the linked PayPal account as well (under Personal Information).

      • Oh well, it looks like in eBay years you will as as old as your Dad from now on! ;) It seems there is no way to change DOB.

If eBay were really serious about accounts not changing hands then they would make it much more difficult for users to change registered names and details.

It makes me wonder how many eBay accounts have actually been sold to third parties, as it would be so simple to do.

  • Just be very careful with PayPal if you change the credit card linked to the account. They have this secret blacklist feature, whereby any credit card that has been registered to 3 different paypal accounts (one at a time obviously) automatically becomes blacklisted forever. So it can't ever be added to another paypal account after that point, it can be removed from the 3rd account though, without any warning of the minefield you are about to enter.

They don't advertise this anywhere for "security reasons". The only way you normally finds out is if you get caught by it. There is no correspondence entered into, no past history considered, or reasons (such as moving to a different county - whereby they force you to set up a new local paypal account), etc. No, paypal will simply tell you to change your credit card number with your bank.

    • What about the other 2 accounts. Does it remain valid?

      • No, you can only have the card on one account at a time, which is fair enough.

So paypal forces you to remove it from the old account, when they also force you to open a new account in your new country. But they don't tell you that once you do that 3 times, its all over. I love paypal.

        • But if you're in a new country shouldn't you have a new CC anyway?

        • No, I still get paid mostly in foreign currency. And anyway, credit cards are supposed to just work the same anywhere in the world. It's only you ozzies (and kiwis) that get stitched up by extra fees when using them abroad.

    • Good thing we only have one PayPal account and one Debit Visa card lol.
