  • For anyone looking for a waterproof/weatherproof camera this is a great buy. Perfect for snorkeling and shallow diving macro shots (with additional housing required below 18m). Had issues with the Tg4 and Olympus replaced the camera after being unable to repair it. Would happily buy again.

    • For any PADI/SSI diver, this is a waste… 15m is poop.

I've used the Nikon AW130 for years (snow, scuba, wherever), and it's been updated to the W300 (4K video). Happily deals with 30m depth. And unless something else has topped it, the Nikon has the best depth rating. Nikon also gives a 2 year warranty as opposed to the Olympus.

Anyway… I'll give the deal a + because it's cheaper than at TED's, but I wouldn't pick it over the Nikon (which you can from $400-$500 just about anywhere)

      • Depends upon the features you are after I suppose.

Recent trip to Port Douglas and the reef boat operators had either the Panasonic or the Olympus. I realise that they don't go down to 30m.

Teds currently has the WS300 at 499 so with this deal you at least you have the chance to choose based on features instead of price

      • +1

Unless you really need the extra depth I'd say the Olympus TG-5 or TG-6 are much better buys than the Nikon AW130. Both are better in low light and also have RAW editing capability, which the Nikon lacks. You also get a predominately metal body rather than plastic. I've used both for predominately reef snorkelling and the shots from the Olympus were much better, especially with a little editing of those RAW files in Lightroom.

        • I reckon the images from the Olympus are better than from the Panasonic for the current models. At the time that I got my Panasonic there wasn't that much in it. I bought the Panasonic because it was a bit more pocketable, a bit less pricey and came with a floating arm bracelet which is really really good. I'd go for the Oly now

          • @freesteakknives: And you can always get the underwater housing if you really need to go deeper.

            • @Ma77mc: Thanks. I won't be going deeper. Problems with the ears :-(
Also I think the Oly has a good set of accessories

  • I've seen some excellent shots come out of the TG-5, and this one should be slightly better - it's a well regarded compact for underwater use. I think if you really want to dive, or even just do a lot of snorkelling, you probably should have something in a housing anyway, and you can of course get one for this.

    Great price.

  • Maybe it's time to upgrade my TG-1

  • Can people buy the Olympus TG-6 from the Qantus Store without points, e.g., with a credit card?
