Best Brand of DIY Home Insect Extermination Products

Hi all,

Which brand of pest (crawlies) extermination products do you recommend? Bunnings products (PestXpert and Hovex) appears to be better then the supermarket offerings - Raid and Mortein after comparing their Safety Data Sheets and their active ingredients. I'm looking at their bomb/fogger type products or even the spray (not the pressure pack aerosols) packs.

  • Aldi range … on sale next week! However, I don't get into the nuts and bolts of insect sprays (i.e. I don't go looking for and reading safety data sheets etc).

  • I usually use the Hovex Bifenthrin concentrate from Bunnings, and double the concentration mixture from manufacturer specs. Seems to do the trick reasonably well. It lists the coverage recommendations on the product pack. Just make sure you’re using long sleeve shirt, pants, rubber gloves, goggles (if you’re spraying eaves), and a respirator that has an interchangeable filter if you’re increasing the dosage. Fipronil is better for ants, but it’s expensive as and I think you have to buy it from a pest supplier. The Bifenthrin does the trick I’ve found for ants as a barrier. If it’s for termites get a pestie in as they have a pressurised spray rod, know the doses per rod and spacing, and will be able to do it much quicker.

If you get the concentrate you’ll need to get a portable small pump sprayer, but the el-cheapo Bunnings one will be fine.
