Air Purifier + (de) Humidifier all-in-one option ?

Hi all,

Looking to get an Air Purifier for mum, but was wondering if anyone has any experience with units that are an all in one, that include air purifier, de-humidifier, humidifier ?

Mums lungs aren't the best, so I'm primarily looking to get an effective (portable) unit for that purpose, but it sometimes becomes humid/dry with presents its own issues too.
The rooms are pretty small, with the largest being lounge/kitchen, which is only about 28m2 combined (lounge is 16m2, kitchen is 8-12m2), so a large unit isn't really needed.

Are all-in-one units good or best to get separate air purifier, and humidifier ?

Can anyone recommend something (in either single unit, or all in one) relatively inexpensive , but effective? (i.e a $1000 unit I can't afford, unless its all-in-one maybe, but a few hundred I should be able to, even if I try going halves with brother).

      How do I delete thread?

Just found out my brother bought a Ionmax UV HEPA Air Purifier ION390B for mum for christmas.:/

Dehumidifiers are basically an air conditioner in a different configuration to room cooling so they're fairly expensive.

  • Ionmax is way too different from a humi-dehumi unit. It's an air purifier. So you still might consider your mom a humidifier, esp since you've mentioned her lungs condition (I have an asthmatic father, so I'm in the same boat as you).

Actually, Home Depot used to sell a unit that both humidified and dehumidified; but it was discontinued a number of years ago. Can't find the equivalent anywhere. Something tells me, though, that there's something out there. Maybe in Europe… as for now I can only found an option from Phillips. Hope this helps.

But please, keep in mind that dehumidifiers produce heat, so you - or your parents in this case - may find it makes the room uncomfortable (it'd be the same effect as if you did run a warm mist at your house, i mean, boiling ones, yuck - considering the relative humidity this season). You might consider a window air conditioner for just that room. That's what I did because that allows me to keep just my room conditioned without having to cool the whole house (it's not big, just as one you've mentioned). So if you want a little extra dehumidification, just turn the temp down on the window unit to force it to run.

Humidifiers are pretty cheap and all work about the same so I don't think it matters what you buy. But be a little careful where you put it, moisture will condense on outside walls if they aren't well insulated, or on windows if it's too close.
