Only have time for 1 PC game to purchase this holiday, what's your recommendation?

Hi, I only have time to play one game over the next month, so I was wondering what should I purchase from either Epic Games Store or Steam?
I mainly play League of Legends and Fortnite, with my favourite game being the Portal series. I enjoyed Skyrim with mods too.

Currently eyeing Witcher 3, Borderlands 3, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Red Dead Redemption 2. I have not played games in those universes before, but they're all highly rated, but I'm rather time-poor. Thanks and Merry Xmas!

  • I would highly recommend RDR2 from your list of sugestions

R2d2 would be an awesome game with beeps and all

    • I wouldn't recommend the PC port of RDR2 right now, in Rockstar fashion it's buggy as all hell. Not worth wasting precious gaming time debugging crashes.

      • Ah thanks for that feedback. It's good advice to wait some time for games ported from consoles to be better optimised.

Witcher 3, and all of it's expansions are really top quality gaming.

Fantastic story telling and gameplay IMO.

  • Game of the Year for me was Resident Evil 2 (2019).

    • Ah, I didn't realise this was a remake that got high ratings. I'll put it on my watchlist, but I'm not super into horror haha. Cheers.

  • Katamari Damacy on PC

What a quirky puzzle game. Also doesn't seem like it'll take too long to play. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Witcher 3 definitely!!

    An alternative:

$1 or so for Game Pass PC for a month. Have a crack at a whole bunch of smaller/indie games that are all fantastic!

    Hollow Knight
    Hotline Miami
    Into the Breach
    My Friend Pedro
    The Talos Principle

I had most of these prior to Game Pass, so I'm glad they're now available to a wider audience. This isn't even listing all the AAA titles either (though not your listed bigger titles, sorry).

I know this gaming style mightn't be everyone's cup of tea, but that's my humble suggestion.

    • What, My Friend Pedro is on Game Pass? Got to try this then!

  • If you've played any of the previous Borderlands games, then BL3 might be a good purchase for you with some longevity.

I enjoy the loot grinding, ARPG games which is why I've been able to play Diablo 3 continuously for the past 7 years. Might be a consideration for you.

Another one to consider is Star Wars Battlefront II… it's been down to $6 on Origin:

I'm currently waiting for this price again as they've really turned the game around since the loot box debacle.
