Yes, they are D grade produce, small and blemished. Because of how they are stored, may be bruised/ black on the inside.

Most would be edible, great for mango pulp. Mango icecream, sorbet, smoothies. Just the outside looks unappealing.

I don't know how much mangoes are going for per box, KPs may be around $15 a box for 14 (good size).

Honey golds are where it's at, they can be around $45 a box.

Yeah, Calypso are the worst in my opinion.
Not in-edible. But Kensington Pride are the standard, Honey Gold are good but too sweet for me.
R2E2 are the best, nice and juicy with a great sweet taste, also bigger than other varieties.

I prefer Kensington Pride to all the others. Calypso supposedly has a smaller pit but I don't find them as flavourful…perhaps they're better in a salad. Honey Gold are good but not as good as the KP. R2E2 has more flesh on them but imo are not as sweet as the KP.

I like my girlfriends mangoes the best

This is considered expensive for the same grade that's typically available at Paddy's markets before closing time.

All the good stuff is shipped to China first. Don’t touch this crap brand.

      Which brand?

Can you expand on what gets shipped to China first? Do you have first hand experience?

I'd like to know tf he on about too

        • I really have no idea what he's on about.

The variety Calypso is owned by the company Calypso. It's not like KPs and R2E2 which have farms in NT and QLD, so various Brands of the same variety i.e manbuloo vs sun select.

  • Thanks op

Calypso are just a pretty face.

I've been doing some independent research where n=1 and it looks like Kensington Pride is the winner (but I did always like a Weis bar). However, the Honey Gold I had may have been overly ripe, so the competition wasn't fair. The sweet spot of ripeness can make a big difference.

It's a shame I wasn't in India during mango season so I could become a real connoisseur.

    • Don't forget Nam Doc Mai - they are generally not available in supermarkets, but often can be found in the markets. Truly original taste, smell and texture. Currently around $8 per kilo in Melbs.

      • Coles has these big they have a very short shelf life

Nice, gonna steal that one for the next time I need to sound authoritative.

On-topic, I also find that I prefer Kensington Pride out of all the varieties readily available here. Nicest flavour and aroma, sweet but not sickeningly so.
