  • Why does the thumbnail look like some sort of Lego piece?

    • Everything is plastic now.

Had to figure out what this is. You place under a vehicle stuck in mud etc and it provides grip

These r the best on the market

  • Look around on here. Someone found some decent comparable ones on eBay for $40. Note, comparable for now, not sure if comparable in 10 years…plastic may go brittle (based on opinion, not any facts to back up)

Not worth it, get the cheap ones for under $100.

    • These ones are tried by many, who knows how the cheap ones will perform after sun exposure.

Who knows how the cheap ones will perform?

The thousands of people that have bought them and had no issues/complaints.

Do you think it takes a 300% mark up to UV stabilize nylon?

        • -3

Honestly yes I think so. The older I am the less I want to buy cheap stuff.

          • @srr: Companies count on lazy, cashed up baby boomers like you.

@Suckerzpayretail: Well you know nothing about me, but it’s true I’m lazy and therefore don’t want to buy a product multiple times. I also enjoy quality product long time instead of going through multiple cheap ones and constantly experience their compromises.

Anyway you have your own life and your own ways, I only speak for myself and what’s been working for me.

              • +2

@srr: They way they generally fail is by spinning your wheels and burning the lugs off. You will tear the lugs off a set of Maxtrax just as fast as you will with a $60 set of X-Bulls.

No lugs = No grip. So you are far better off with 2 sets of cheap tracks, then you have fresher lugs and can put them under 4 wheels. It's a piece of plastic with no moving parts that you throw in the mud, the whole "therefore don’t want to buy a product multiple times" goes out the window.

              • @srr: You seem switched on, if the cheap ones have been proven at this point to work just as well (which they have) then why wouldn’t you want to save your money?

Believing that it takes a 300% mark up to put some UV stabilising chemicals in with the nylon mix is just ignorant. The cheaper ones are already UV stabilised as well.

I’m all for buying the right product and buying once rather than hurting twice. But ignoring things out of convenience seems silly.

                • @corbz: Already bought so you might also count sunk cost in. I have seen the comparison before and decided I want the maxtrax. Maybe the cheaper ones from eBay are as good or even better but they are not brand named and I just don’t want to take the risk.

But I like that there are cheaper options around, they keep brands on their toes and force them to run sales like this.

Good price if you were looking to spend another 50 in anaconda.

    That's good value right there.

I have a 200 Series Landcruiser, fully decked for off-road use.
I do a lot of beach and trails.
Purchased 2 pairs of the Aldi brand, as a back up, because invariably we come across some underprepared monkey that gets stuck.
The Aldi brand have lasted 3 years, multiple use, still using it this season, will last another 2/3 years.

  • I used to think everyone was carting stretchers around on their 4wd 🤣
