Samsung Tab 10.1 32GB 4G from Telstra for $288 + Week's Worth of Data

FB add came up today which shows total cost of Tab A 10.1 32gb 4G for $8 or $12/month with a month-to-month data plan. Min cost for tab is $288. My thought is you just cancel said plan the day you receive the tab and pay out total cost, which means you've got a 4g tab for $288 plus like 5 days pro rata data costs.

Plus: 10K points (worthless?) + Cash back maybe?

Any flaws in my plan?

    Yeah,

You receive a monthly discount/credit on the device plan

    Your Device Payment Contract

You may purchase an eligible device with this plan, payable over 24 or 36 interest-free monthly payments. If you receive a monthly credit and cancel your Plan or Device Payment Contract early, you will lose your credit and must pay the balance of any remaining device repayments.

Verify what the original price of the device is and if you receive the monthly discount/credit

    • I'm not sure there is a discount on the tab, I can't seem to find anything that states a higher price

      • Call up Telstra support/sales or webchat them etc

        • Online chat says I can just buy it for $288 outright

          • @Nalar: Better choice to go with the buy outright if you can:

See the following when it was posted as a deal:

Quick quote from the above ozbargain user when it was preciously posted as a deal:

order with extra small data plan ($15-5GB) for the first month and I will cancel it after one month.

            Heres the problem:

Save $216 … when you stay connected to any month-to-month plan for 24 or 36 months.

Discount applies as a credit over the device payment period. If you cancel your plan, the discount will not apply to any remaining amount outstanding.

You must have an eligible Telstra Data Plan in order to have a Device Payment Contract. If you cancel your Device Payment Contract early, cancel your data plan during the device payment term or move to an ineligible data plan during the payment term, you’ll need to pay out your device, in full. Device discounts do not apply to cancelled Device Payment Contracts.

So if you cancel after 1 month, you will end up having to pay out the rest of the tablet cost immediately and at it's full price of $499. (Minus the first months $8)

            • @loke: Im pretty sure $288 IS the price now, there's no mention of a discount. If it's available in store outright no plan needed, I think it's a crazy cheap deal for 4g

  • Heres 2 examples off my 2017 and 2019 optus contracts with the recurring handset credit granted monthly:

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39679/47491/optus_hand…

So expect to pay the full retail, non-discounted price on terminating the contract.

    • Optus. Not Telstra though.

      • More or less universal, see previous comment at above:

        • wording is different with this.
Tablet appears to be $288 without mention of device credit.

            Exactly right, as above

  • I wonder if I can add the A10 Tab with my current telstra data plan? which is not currently under contract at the moment and move it too contract 😃👍
