Supermarket brand from OS or Aussie product from multinational?

Shopping tonight, needed an item. There were two types available.

  1. 100% Australian produce from a multinational co with historically questionable ethics.
  2. Aussie owned supermarket house branded item but product of the EU.

Which one is better for the local economy? The half priced supermarket branded or the ‘premium’ branded item that probably cost similar to the EU item but where the profit goes OS?

100% gotta be Aussie produce. As long as multinational brand is taxed here.

    • Well that’s the problem. I suspect that said multinational is probably not paying anywhere near the tax that they should.

      • And how do you know they don't pay the tax they should?

        • You haven't seen all the kerfuffle about multinationals taking all sorts of steps to minimise the pay? Moving off shore, cayman island style?

    1. because the EU has far better legislation to prevent tax avoidance unlike the oligarchy that fools voted for in Australia. Too bad the behavior won't benefit you but at least you aren't funding your enemy who benefit in the oligarchy.

100% Australian produce means lots of employment of people in this country in lots of varies fields, so support them.

  • Damn fine question!

  • multi national buys from Australian farmers and pay Australians to package the products and transport workers to move the items between farms and processing plants all these people pay taxes in Australia
Homebrand pays someone overseas to grow, transport and package product (no taxes paid in Australia) and usually they buy from the cheapest supplier they can and put the savings into their profit
