  • Wish I could afford it.

I just bought one from ebay used, been playing with it for a few days. Phenomenal camera.

Higy recommend, it was between this and the Sony Aiii and after months of research it seemed the fujifilm to be the better one if video is important. Sony is slightly better in low light and has image stabilisation. The fujifilm x t3 is a beast of a camera.

I have never used a camera before. This was my third photo I took with it https://imgur.com/a/NRajrtw

It makes people with no skill, appear to have a little bit of skill.

lol. Let's not get ahead of ourselves there mate. The more you learn, the more you realise how little you really know. The general public (and all of us when we first started) just think hi-def image + blurring out the background = awesome photo. When you watch a pro take and edit images, you realise why you aren't a pro.

At the end of the day, the 2 old sayings apply. It's the photographer and not the camera (but the camera makes it more appealing) and the best camera is always the one you have with you. The majority of amateur or enthusiasts won't use these cameras to their full potential so just go with the one that you like holding and that you can also afford.

FWIW Fuji has a better cost to IQ ratio on their lens lineup and firmware updates whereas sony has more widespread lens options but the good stuff so damn expensive, heavy and bulky in comparison. There is also the FF to crop decision too.

      EDIT: Enjoy the journey!

Thanks mate. I've been learning for months but only just bought it. I know that I know nothing. There is so much talent in film and photography.

This is a great camera if people are on the fence, I'd jump right into the fuji ecosystem.

      • Have to agree on the Cost:IQ, although I am absolutely loving the Sony APSC lineup now they have introduced the 16-55 2.8 its a game changer!!

    • how much did you have to pay for it?????

Bought a good few as stocking fillers for my brothers, sister, cousins, in laws and neighbours. Thanks OP!

  • Coming from Fuji APSC to Sony FF, can confirm that Fuji cameras and lenses are great, especially when considering the price. Great lenses at very affordable prices and lots of cashback. Great for hobbyists.
This deal is a great price. If you have been waiting to put away your mobile phone, this camera is great to get on board.

    • Thoughts on moving to the Sony FF? - I'm pretty much decided to move there, or at least definitely to full frame, but not 100% sold on Sony (an expensive move!)

      • +2

Defenitely expensive. Can say you won't get as similar jump in image quality as you pay for. Unless there is absolutely something you cannot achieve with APSC, I won't recommend it.

      • If you are moving to FF and not tied to a specific eco system yet, I'd recommend the Canon EOS RP, a modern design released this year, user friendly interface, good discount atm, ~$1200 after Canon cash back and 5 years warranty, or ~1300 with the EF adapter which opens up to a vast range of new and used EF lenses at affordable prices. Canon's color science is also their strong point (skin tones in the Canon look far more natural and pleasing).

  • I bought one of these at Digi Direct's 15% off/3 year interest free sale the other day.
Gorgeous camera, absolutely love it. I've been wanting to get back into photography again after a long break, and not having a real camera for a while. I've always loved the look of Fuji's images, and the cameras just have something about them that makes them nice to hold and use. Kind of like Leica but without the exorbitant cost.
Bit of a learning curve trying to understand all of its AF modes and things, and the camera is highly customisable so there are a million menu options to play around with.
Highly recommended if you want a very nice enthusiasts camera that feels a bit more 'special' than a regular mirrorless/DSLR.

    • Was wondering about the offer, can you still cashback from Fujifilm if you pay by zip?

      • Hi Abzdot, yep you can still claim cash back when buying with Zip :)

  • what lens would you guys recommend?

    • Depends on what kind of photos you wanna take?

      • i want good low light photos, without grain.

But I don't want a lens that sticks out like an elephant's trunk either.

        • You're not really saying anything.

It's the equivalent of saying something like "I want to take pictures in bright sunlight". Yes, but of what

If you have to ask the question of what lens to get, go with the 18-55mm. It's light weight, takes great images, and has some basic low light capabilities.

It's versatile enough that you wont miss out on much. When you feel limited by it, then you can consider another lens.

          • @[Deactivated]: The Northern lights.

But that won't be the only thing. I'll be traveling quite a bit this year. So the city at night I guess?

I'm not photographing birds or wildlife or anything like that. Just general purpose use but with emphasis on night time photos.

@lostn: the 16-55mm f/2.8 is your best bet at a general purpose lens that does decently in low light and astro, but it's fairly beefy compared to the rest of the range, and costs more.

A better option for the same-ish money would be to get a wide angle prime lens for astro (<18mm with an aperture f/2.8 or lower), and another for general purpose (either another general prime, or a zoom depending on what you shoot outside of astro). That keeps your kit much lighter, has better astro image quality than a general purpose lens and you can choose either lens depending on what you plan on shooting that day.

Generally for a beginner, it's much more cost effective to get a 18-55mm lens and work your way up. It's an incredibly good lens for the money, very versatile and is doable for astro. Then when you know exactly your shooting style, and how you're limited by what you have, I'd upgrade. No point splashing a crap load of money when you won't be able to use it to its full capability.
