Outdoor Emergencies: No Radio, Only a Small Laser-Torch... What's the Best way to signal 4 Help?

.So, we all know that Pilots & Vehicle Drivers don't like Lasers aimed at their cabins / vehicles.

But there may be some defined exceptions that allow, say, an injured hiker, hunter, mountain-climber, etc. to Signal that Help is Needed.

(Yes, I know there are procedures for Signaling by Fire, but I'm NOT keen to light a match.)

I'm liking this new writing style. Keep it up.

Maybe you could use whatever device you used to create this thread to get help?

Use the laser pointer to light the match

Aim a laser pointer at someone, wait for them to call the cops, or come to you to bash you - success!

  • Distress flares.

Such a rational question requires a rational response.

Given that 83% of the time
    Nothing much happens
    to 68.73% of ozbargainers
    when browsing for eneloop
    batteries that go flat rarely
    one would assume that
    at christmas time, another 25.2%
    would find lasers appealing
    for slicing of radishes, to
be used instead of milk in vegan
ice treats, this leaves the laser
    available for signalling
of Jetstar pilots, as long as
they are not battling head winds
across the Tasman, on a friday afternoon

    Hope that helps

    As my Mafia friend says

  • Where did you learn English? What's the deal with the random capitalisation?

    • Maybe they're German ?

All nouns are capitalised in German.

Maybe a Sat phone? They are expensive but could save your life. Personally wouldn't use a laser unless I was desperate

On another note, make sure you follow Russell Coight's water recommendation calculation:

"I never go into the outback without a decent supply of water, and the general rule for how much you'll need is three litres per day, per person, per man, per degree over 25 degrees Celcius, per kilometre if walking on foot, in the winter months dividing it by two, plus… another litre… at the end."

    • I've learnt everything I know about bushcraft from Russell Coight, a very wise man.

Get yourself a personal locator beacon (PLB). Lots of hikers have them. https://australianhiker.com.au/advice/technology-on-the-trai…
There is also a type of laser you can use to signal searching aircraft which is legal and not hazardous to eyesight:
