Bose QC35 II Firmware Issues - ANC

Hi,
I've been thinking about purchasing the Bose QC35 II as it seems to be Ozbargain's favourite child. I did come across a few comments regarding how the latest firmware has significantly degraded the ANC capabilities. A quick google search lead me to the following thread which is over 200 pages long and reading through the comments, it doesn't seem like Bose is any closer to fixing the problem.

To those who have purchased this, are you experiencing any issues with the latest FW. Is it bad enough that ANC is totally unusable?

I would have gone for Ozbargain's other love child, the Sony XM3 if only the microphone quality wasn't terrible.

Comments

  • Weird. Is the firmware downgradeable?

    • No. Not with the latest FW, you can no longer downgrade.

  • Always upgrade my firmware to the latest, no issues here

  • I just rolled back onto 3.1.8 from 4.5.2 (latest FW) using the instructions from this link.

    • When did you perform the rollback? Based on this thread in Reddit, the downgrade process has been patched by Bose.

      • Today - you need to use the modded Bose Updater.

      • So someone found a solution to the problem and Bose killed that solution? In addition to not solving the problem themselves after half a year. Shameless.

  • I updated firmware on mine and have no impact on noise cancellation.

  • Your options:

    A) Pony up for the 700 (and hope they don't screw these at some point in the future like they did the QC35 II)
    B) Wait for Bose to fix the problem (and hope that they actually will)
    C) Wait for XM4 (and hope Sony improves whatever issues you have with XM3)

Not great options. But in your shoes, I would probably be leaning towards A.
