Any ways to get warranty on eBay purchase

Hi all,
I’m looking at buying a smart watch off eBay from a seller that claims the stock is 100% Aus stock with Aus warranty.
The seller however is new to Ebay.
If I was to buy from them is there any ways I can make the purchase to guarantee I have the full manufacturers warranty as although they claim they are authorised sellers, if they aren’t then I’m screwed if there’s an issue in a few months.
I guess I could buy it and once I get a purchase receipt I could contact the Australian distributor and ask them if it’s covered and if not put a claim straight into eBay. Would that work?

you have 6 months with PayPal to open a dispute. after that you could take it up with manufacturer is they accept it. Most PayPal sellers will do their best to avoid you after the 6 months

I could contact the Australian distributor

Goods sold by unauthorised re-sellers are not covered by manufacture warranty.

    • Yes I know this which is why I was thinking of purchasing so I have the sellers receipt then asking the Australian distributor if the seller is an authorised seller of the product. If they say no then I can send it back to the seller as their ad clearly states that they are. Ebay would back me on this I think.

Claim what back? The fact you don't have warranty?

Why don't you ask the seller how the warranty works on this item.

    • I’m just trying to cover myself in the instance the seller is shonky as they are new.
The ad states it’s Aus stock and has full Aus warranty with Aus distributor but as we all know Ebay sellers can tell porkys.

      • yes they all tell porkys, basically anything you buy on ebay has a 6 month warranty and thats it. Regardless of the 'claims'.

        Any extra, is a bonus!

  • Is there a reason you're so focused on the 'manufacturer' warranty when you've got the benefit of your rights under the ACL which automatically provide the exact same thing (plus more)?

    • Yes as they are a new seller and it would be alot easier to just close up a new seller account with no built up history.

You can claim against the manufacturer under the ACL if the product is defective. No need to go through the retailer.

        • Local suppliers are not required to provide a remedy if the goods are purchased from an unauthorised reseller.

  • I use eBay plus as you can return goods for free or if you have any problems, eBay SHOULD help you.
Is the seller an eBay plus member?
