Simpson Washing Machine Top Loader - No Power

Simpson washing machine purchased new in 2011 (out of warranty). No issues until a few days ago when it simply refuses to turn on / no lights or sounds at all.

Model is SWT554.

Some people online suggest replacing the circuit board for it (which is over $120) but i'm reluctant to go this route if this won't 100% fix the problem.

I had a look at the circuit board and the only thing that might be an issue is a small brown part which looks like it has brown burn marks near it.

Does any one else have any experience with this washing machine having no power and how was it fixed?

Thank you

Update 05/07/2020 - Ordered a replacement Control Board for the Swt554 washing machine (part number 0133200118) from eBay.
Replaced the old control board with the suspected fried component with the new one and machine now works!!

  • Another example of how not to use a bargain site ;p

Pretty sure it's a bargain if op can fix his machine cheaply as well as save it from landfill.

      • Touche, good point

  • Can't see very well in the picture, but capacitors are a common failure point. Got a multimeter? You can likely find the service manual online.

I have owned multiple SWT series Simpsons.

They are cheap, tough, simple to use but the latter versions rely on a stupid PCB board which is prone to these vents.

The prior ones with the mechanical dial were the ones that lasted the longest.

When my washing machine didnt work i noticed the power plug was in the off position. Have you confirmed this with yours?

triple checked - even tried another appliance on the same outlet to rule out it wasn't an outlet issue

  • Could be a bit of corrosion on that cap, for the cost of a cap might be worth a punt. Do you have a soldering iron?

"No power seems to be a common issue with with this model damn…"

Did you searching find a common solution as well?
